Turbulators: Mount Up (G400 Max)

Has anyone else had good success with a moderate swing speed pairing the max with a low launch low spin shaft? I’m thinking of grabbing an EF black or hzrdus black to see if I can bring my ballflight down a bit. Using a ping tour 65 currently which I love, but even at 8 degrees still launches high. I also don’t hit up on the ball very much.

Also looking for an answer to this. Playing G410LST (9 degree head set at 8 degrees) with Ventus Velocore Blue 6S now, and am buying a G400 Max 9 with Tour 65s off a buddy (which I may or may not have previously owned and sold to him....) Tested both last year and I do love the 400 Max, but will be playing it at 7.5 and still concerned launch/spin will creep a little high, especially given my miss is low heel. That's a me problem, but, curious what low launch/spin shafts are working for others in this thread. I do get along with the Tour shaft, but want to know what's working for others.

Still playing the G400 Max 10.5 turned down 1. I dont love the feel or sound. Seems very dull. But on the course it routinely saves me so I cant depart from it. I've tried 3 or 4 other drivers that I just crush on a launch monitor and on the range, but out on the course I am left and right and the ball knuckles, or the toe shot just keeps going left. And i know if that was the 400max I wouldnt be out in the desert with the rattlers looking for my ball.

Pretty much everything is faster than the G400 Max, and I say that as a huge Ping advocate (only took the 400 out of the bag for the moveable weight in the 425).

Pings are heavy and you'll swing them slower. The 400MAX head weight is 206g and the Sim Max is 194g. My CHS is usually 2-4MPH slower with Pings when I get fit.

It is why they have a counterweighted shaft. Swingweight is still D1, but overall weight is 5-10 grams on average heavier. For slower swing speeds, they have the Distanza shaft (sr flex) which is 15 grams lighter than the Alta CB, the swingweight stays relatively the same (at least it feels same to me)

I played the G400 max 9* for years with a AD BB 6s(does not play like a "stiff" shaft). I had great success with it. It checked all the boxes other than sound, I really couldn't hit range balls with it. It's the best driver I have ever had and although I got the 425 LST I will be keeping the g400 max.

I owned 5 G400 Max drivers in the last four years. lol

But it was last season where I really used it in real life. The others I just used them indoors as I bought them in winter. I kept on getting seduced by low launch low spin and hitting bombs instead of the forgiveness of a driver which I really need. I kept on selling my G400 Max before spring. Last season, I decided to finally stick with a G400 Max and last season was my best driving of my life. I also change drivers every year. I know, it is stupid. This year is going to be different. Tried different drivers this off season and I could not get the same performance that my G400 Max was giving me. It's staying for another season in my bag. Which feels like an eternity.

I used mine last season with an ALTA CB regular and it felt like a wet noodle. I was able to make it work though. This off season I swapped that shaft to a Tour regular and what a world of difference. I am so excited to get this out on the course when the snow melts!

Same setup I have in my G400 Max 9°.. Tour AD BB 6s (assembled at Ping) and it's super smooth. I also have a Tour AD BB 6x to try in the G400 Max 10.5° head this year..

Safe to say that the BB should launch lower and spin less than my tour 65 stiff? I might look into it.  I have a very fast transition but a moderate speed in general.

The next question i have is there plans for a new Ping driver this year? I know the G425 was launched a little over a year ago in Jan 2021--is there plans for G500 or something this year lol

Rick Shiels did a segment on his first podcast of the year where he confirmed via an unnamed industry source that Ping will not release a new driver in 2022.

I’ve hit every driver that’s come out since, and none of them come close to consistency and low dispersion of my G400 LST. TSi3 had some rockets that went an extra 10 yards, but majority the same distance with more left and right.

Just as a follow up, went in and tested the Rogue and Stealth today and the LGS. Hard to take much from it since my swing is in winter shape (read none) and I wasn't properly warm, but a few notes. Trackman confirmed that I'm hitting down a bit much on the ball and my swing speed is in the low 90's. Good to have data to back up what I am feeling on the course.

On those 2 driver's, I wasn't much impressed with the Rogue. Glad I hit it because of the 2 that one would have been the blind purchase. The stealth, I had a hard time hitting the center, but when I did it felt amazing. I was hitting the Ascent Red and really saw 20+ yds and optimal spin (2500) with a 14° launch angle. I want to go back in a few more weeks when more of the new products are available and my swing is in better shape to put them up against my G400 max, but I have to wonder if a shaft change might get me the same benefits of the Stealth session with the Ping. Does anyone have any comparison between the Alta and the Ascent? Maybe know a descent comparison to the Ascent in a cheaper shaft that would be worth taking a flyer on to do real world testing?

Hi boys. First round with my newly sourced used G400 Max in the bag yesterday. My Mavrik SZs are going up for sale. I didn't know I needed something like this driver in my life. Hit it so consistent and sooo good. Glad to be in the club! 🥰

Been a rough day.  My 400 Max has given up the ghost as the crown cracked on the range.  I called PING and they said: "we're sorry but there's nothing we can do".  I'm accepting condolences through the holiday season and then it will be time to turn the page.  It's kind of weird when you have a sickening feeling when a golf club breaks...but that's the 400 for ya.

One of my favorite shots these days is a G400 Max blast off the fairway.  As long as the grass is reasonably lush, so I can bang down hard on the ball, I (usually) get good results.  This shot has become a necessity as of late, with my gimpy back eliminating my ability to practice anymore, and the subsequent loss of distance.   I use the Max on long par 3's also; those in the 230 yard range.  I hit a low cut, and slide the ball into the green (hopefully.)  I may or may not hit the green this way, but every try puts a smile on my face!.

I will say from now trying 5 shafts in the 430 head … these drivers really REALLY change performance and feel wise with different shafts

wrong shaft and too low, etc etc

my 70tx was a little long and heavier and the performance just wasn’t the high draws I like to see

Check eBay and you’ll probably find one. That’s what I did after giving mine to a grandson who then wouldn’t give it back. I offered to give him the shiny new 410 but he figured that out quick (brat.) He’s on his high school team so I’m trying to encourage him.

Anyways, a G400 Max on eBay isn’t cheap but it’s not prohibitive. I bought one that had a senior ladies noodle flex shaft as it was considerably cheaper. Interesting thing is that after getting the 400 back in my bag I won a WRX giveaway for a Cobra Aerojet Max and I’ve been using it for a while now. For me I get the same results without the Ping sound.

It's amazing how much difference a shaft can make.

I secretly swapped out my wife's stock Alta shaft with a cut down Ping Tour shaft, and it was a night and day difference for her and her G400 Max. Needless to say I never got that shaft back 😂
