Looks exactly like any other "I" series iron from them in the last few generations to me.  Not a bad thing.

Agreed, and I think we will all be happy they didn't get crazy. I did try to ding the back of the club with my other iron, and it didn't make any markings. Small test, but wanted to see if it was a metal that would ding and dent.

Hahaha, thanks! I was swinging decent last night, but the distance consistency seriously had me blown away. Small miss left or right held consistent distance. I hit A LOT of balls, and these stood out right away. My low expectations from the i59 release may have been part of the reason I was so impressed.

If you can't tell, I'm genuinely very excited for these irons. I think PING short iron head shapes are some of the best, which is one of the reasons I wouldn't mind putting my PXGs into the back up bag!

Got to hit the fitting head last night. Couple of observations:

- Size - I think it's excellent. Similar to my 0311T (Gen 5) and slightly larger than the T100s (As pictured)

- Sound and feel - Excellent, more positive than the 0311, but honestly feel softer than my T100S.

- Performance - I was pretty blown away. Consistency was the best I've ever seen. Little more spin than my 0311T and about 500 rpm more than T100S. The loft of the 7 iron was 33, so probably same lofts as i210. More grooves probably helped bring spin up too. I was about 4.5 yards shorter than 0311T and T100S, but the 1* of loft probably accounts for almost all of that.

- The back of the club! - I was concerned it was going to be hollow and T200 like. It's not. It does seem to maybe be some sort of plastic material but does not feel our sound like it is hollow behind there. It seems pretty tough. Seems almost like a micro slot that funs across the CTP port area, but not really sure.

This was basically how I wish the i59 would have felt, but they are tremendously better. Almost not even related.

Tested using the Project X LZ 6.0.

Needless to say, I ordered a set, can't wait, hopefully have them in November!

Photos show it next to a T100S 7 iron for reference. I would say the photos make the i230 seem bigger than they are due to perspective. Sorry about that.IMG_5715.jpg.ee3668061b50ff873337c5293466ffc2.jpgIMG_5716.jpg.132bcc4886bd83ee3c8c7a4307f4d143.jpgIMG_5717.jpg.fe7986b1e01f543a8ceb18083174acf7.jpgIMG_5718.jpg.426753badb82d5602c66658a8e039d7b.jpg

do you think durability will be an issue in the long run?

also can you comment on feel compared to other forgings/clubs you've tried?

thanks!

I think the back plate we are all worried about shouldn't have much issue with denting or durability. My main concern was that is was the the back of the T200, which it is not. I can't imagine theres any space between the back cover and the back of the face. What I wonder now is how many pieces it is and how much of it is dependent on glue to stay in place. I'm hoping it is somewhat sandwiched together with the other components going into where the port normally is on these irons.

Feel was top notch. I would put them up against not any modern forgings. Given all the tech and multimaterial irons we see now, these are going to be on par with any. I prefer their feel to the T100S, although the T100S aren't known for being soft. My 0311T feel softer, but that isn't to say the i230 is clicky or harsh. If you've hit PXG, you just know they are different and really feel great too. I'd put it as similar to Callaway Apex, and even Mizuno 223 level. I think it will pleasantly surprise much like the i210 did.

My only concern with the backs is that there appears to be a gap where the weight plug meets the back of the iron.  It even is shown in your pic what looks like a small gap so I wondered when I first seen the pics of these if dirt/water could get into there and not come out which could create some issues as time goes on!

Ok, so why are they the only OEM that has had problems to this level? EVERY other manufacturer released new product…maybe not in the exact schedule they started on, but launched successfully nonetheless. Only one hasn't…Ping.

it does seem Ping has had this issue before covid. They also ship new releases to Europe and Asia prior to releasing clubs in the USA. I like Ping a lot however maybe the loss of those top guys to PXG has something to do with it . The i59 release was weird and the price was crazy .I play i210 irons still but its time for an upgrade .

always be careful of that "upgrade" presumption. that i210 is a venerable iron. and if you're still striping it there might not be any benefit in a premature retirement.

great point !! I finally got fit for my driver and now am eager to be fit for my irons. I would gladly keep the i210 irons if I could just do a shaft fitting for them . only problem is after shaft and grips I'm halfway to the price of a new set off BST .

Agreed on how good Ping short iron heads are.  i210 short irons were just phenomenal.  How was the top line?

22 pages of an i230 thread to find out what club that Ping has stopped producing for 2 years?? In the time it took you to post that you could have easily answered, super helpful.

But since I did already read the thread and went back a couple pages just to make sure there is not one mention of Ping pausing 2 years to make a club or clubs.

Some guy has mentioned that it has taken him a few months to get a wedge.

Of course, you mentioned yourself that Ping stopped making their "Flagship" irons for 2 years, whatever that means, yet you fail to provide what that was. I do know that Ping actually produced the i210 a couple years past their typical cycle then discontinued it. In the meantime, Ping has i59, 525, 425 and I believe the g710 are still current at retail. Of course, this being the i230 thread, (with a bunch of whining about other things) they will be released shortly. Multiple wedge and putter releases as well with no 2 year pause, I'm just not seeing it.

For someone that clearly dislikes Ping you sure like to participate in these discussions!

I210’s. They stopped producing i210’s. I thought that was pretty obvious considering it’s an i230 thread.

It was very good. I wouldn’t classify it as big by any stretch.

I think they get better every year are making the top line APPEAR smaller, when it’s likely the same. The offset also seems to be less, or at least blended into the bend a bit better than i210.

Great info! Thanks for comparing it to some other similar clubs for reference.

I'm more curious (if you remember) what your dispersion was like on mishits and overall distance (i.e. consistency)? I like my T100 because of the looks/feel/sound, but I tried my buddy's i210 and realized why it's a favorite.

the Titleist has seemed to get progressively smaller. While they are forgiving for their size, going to the slightly larger i230 seems to have a massive return on investment when it comes to miss hits.

my miss at the moment is on the toe. Like, sometimes I miss the grooves 😂. These are miracle workers but the distance loss is minimized compared to the T100. My PXG are actually excellent at this, and arguably better than the i230, but the i230 is definitely a more attractive overall club.
