That is interesting. I recall Tyrrell playing the I230s during The Open.

 

The RandA has this blurb:

I guess it depends if the Model Local Rule is in effect. Also curious that they only mention driver heads (likely due to MOI/COR restrictions) but not irons.

 

 

Edit: Further reading local Rules reveals how this was allowed:

 

Rule 8G-1 List of Conforming Driver Heads

Any driver the player uses to make a stroke must have a clubhead, identified by model and loft, which is on the current List of Conforming Driver Heads issued by the USGA.

 

The language of the rule states the driver head must be on the USGA list

 

Rule 8G-2 Groove and Punch Mark Specifications

In making a stroke, the player must use clubs that conform to the groove and punch mark specifications in the Equipment Rules that took effect on 1 January 2010.

An Informational Club Database of fairway woods, hybrids, irons and wedges which have been tested for conformance to the current Equipment Rules is found at www.USGA.org.

 

The language states that the USGA conforming list can be used as a tool to confirm eligibility but doesn't explicity state the irons must be on the list like it does for driver heads.

My iBlades were power specs as well as my current i59s and Blueprints. Mainly because i have i500s for the 3, 4 and 5. I needed to mess with the lofts to get the gapping right. Even still its a little wonky.  From the eye test i can’t tell much difference from non power spec. that being said i am so used to them now i would order the i230s in power spec.

Stock is DG 120 and DG 105 confirmed plus AWT 2.0 and a couple of others.

Am I the only one questioning why the cost of an iron is so hight? Ping used to be $125 an iron for the I 210. Seems like quite a large jump.

Had my order in for a while through my pro shop-was obviously just sitting with his rep until he could place the order.  Can't wait for these to arrive.  4-UW +1/4 1 up with Nippons.  Played I20s for a long time before going to another manufacturer for the past 3 years.  Can't wait to get back to Ping and these irons.  Don't sleep on the UW either.  I thought it was a great addition to the set when I had my I20s.

Ngl, at $187.50 each, I’m a little underwhelmed with the stock shafts.

 

Anyone have experience with/planning to order the AWT 2.0? I’ve been interested in trying ascending weight shafts and know Nippon makes these. With the weak stock offerings, thinking this might be the move.
 

As an aside, I’m also a little bummed w pgatourss for this release. Stock only shows dg105 r and s flex, anything else requires custom order where price is $200 per club (??), and all the shafts are outrageously priced lol. Big oof imo. I have a bunch of trade credit so trying to order through them.
