New Ping ChipR

Ping Tour IG just released the picture on their feed of the new Ping ChipR that going to be released soon. 
 

I know there are a handful of new putters that are going to be released as well but don’t know exactly when. 
 

Anser, Anser 2D, DS72, DS72 C, Kushin 4, Mundy, Prime Tyne 4, Shea, Tomcat 14 and Tyne G.

How is the ChipR same/different from Cleveland's Smart-Sole chipper. I mean, aside from lower loft, 38.5* vs. 42*?

Prerelease started today.  Retail 7/28

Looks like a modern version of the old ChipO.  Guess that kinda makes sense.

Smart Sole C 4.0 is 42*, 34" long, 66* lie angle

ChipR is 38.5*, 35" long, 70" lie angle  (can be custom fit for lie, length, etc).

I think the weight on the Smart Sole is likely heavier as it comes with a 130g steel or 106 graphite shaft.

Ping's ChipR shafts are lighter I believe.

i already had a Cleveland Smart Sole C on order a few days before i heard about the Ping Chipr. now i have two chippers on the way 🤔

Are those expected to be an expansion of the PLD line or a new iteration of the insert models?

Crossfield did a review and does compare it too his Smart-Sole. Mainly the ChipR has a narrower sole that allows it to be opened up slightly.

I play the ChipR shot all the time with 8, 9, PW and choking up.

The main point is the lie angle, much more upright than an iron, makes chipping much easier……

 

it’s not meant for people that are happy chipping with their irons, it’s for those that aren’t.

I'm fine chipping with my PW, but every time a new chipper comes out, i feel an almost uncontrollable urge to break out my old Cleveland Niblick again.  Especially loved the arrow-straight flights on those longish shots.
