Those are beautiful.  Wish I had the game to play them but I need something more forgiving.

My guess, and it is just a guess, is that he has a story on the creation of the 621.JT irons with the details on what JT wanted and how the engineers got there. I don't think it is a blade that we will see at retail anytime soon, but I don't know.

Don’t ruin the fun. Lol..

I saw that Ryan Barath posted a photo of what looks like a 620 MB that has the muscle completely milled. My guess is that this is for one of their tour players and they have adopted the CNC milling process similar to what TaylorMade used on Tiger's irons to be able to replicate this club to the tightest of tolerances again. Does anyone else have any insight on these?

Do you want butter stuck in your milling grooves? Because that's how you get butter stuck in your milling grooves. 😂

@kwainio great article, thank you for sharing.  The 680, 620, T100 combo they are working on fro Webb Simpson sounds much more interesting and playable that the one off JT's.

I really hope they release the new MB iron as JT designs it.  He is titleist’s best player. They put all this effort to perfect it for him.  I want to use exactly what he’s using on tour.  That’s the whole fun of it.  Don’t water it down with weird offset and sole grind for the average golfer.  If you like offset titleist offers 7 other iron sets that have offset.  They’ve been putting weird offset on the mb ever since Adam Scott has been their top player.

Cornell Forge in Chicago would be my guess.  They're probably the only forge left in the US with any significant history in forging golf clubs.  They were one of it not the premiere producer of forged heads for decades for oems like Macgregor, Hogan, Ram, etc.

In aerospace we use "freeze plugs"

You keep the iron head at ambient temperature, freeze the plug, and drop it in. When it expands to normal temp, it's never coming out. I'd imagine that's what Ping does with their putters and TM does with their Tiger irons.

And what Mizuno has done for many years.

We're looking at the same photo.

1: Getitdaily commented that it would increase MOI.

2: I responded that it would negligibly change MOI. (The plug would move weight back, and most likely change launch/spin but not affect resistance to twisting much)

3: You responded with a "yes but", talking about sweet spots.

I have no idea what you're arguing. This is the opposite direction of the T100.

I don’t think JT is looking for more moi.   What he’s going to see is more ballspeed. Or more from a wider area.    To move more weight middle , you need to take it out somewhere.  But you don’t have to take it all out of the ends and move it middle.  You can move most middle and the have smaller plugs on each side to balance it back out.

Nobody is toeing one of those irons.  Just doesn’t happen.  But moving most of the weight dead middle will indeed make them faster and easier to hit for a guy who doesn’t miss but by a hair.  Even here on This site , you can read of how the Miura small ( aka baby ) blade is easier to hit than expected , and how they’re fast .  The reason is centralized mass.    Instead of a pea sized sweetspot , you get a nickel sized spweetspot . And All of it has enough mass behind it to not lose speed.

but hey.  Why argue about head twist on a blade.  Who cares ?  If that’s a concern , you can’t play them anyway.

From memory the original theory behind Tungsten Plugs in blades wasn't directly related to MOI, but more the position of the sweetspot on the head. Classic blades tend to have the sweetspot towards the heel, scarily close to the rocket region, so the tungsten was positioned towards the toe to move it more central. First irons I heard that did it were the OG Blades from Nike - I could never find any info on if it was just Tiger's OG Blades that got them or the retail models also - however I played the retail models for 15 years and found the sweetspot pretty central ime, and seems similar on my VR Pros.

Good to see the established manufacturers have caught up to where Nike was 20 years ago. This means we're about 4 years away from the return of the square driver 😉
