He’s a hack…I’m on the heater if my life. Of course I cannot handle the heat and play when there’s any kind of pressure at all. But I still putt around at least 90 minutes a day whether outside or indoors and hit balls whether on the range or at home in the garage.

Go ahead and disagree with me but I feel this should have been a side show. Why did it become the main show? 

 

Great story and he seems like a cool guy, but he finished 10 shots off of the lead.

 

The story got treated as if he was actually in contention.

 

Lots of coverage of him on Sunday and not enough of the actual players in contention (Scheffler, Hovland, Dechamps, etc.)

Again, if he had been within a few shots of the lead, I'd be on board. But it was more of just a sentimental story. Spare me. 

 

If you didn't see the Tournament and just saw the parade, you would think he actually won the PGA.

I’m being facetious obviously. My take on this whole thing he’s a fantastic player that careered it in a major when the lights were brightest, doesn’t mean he sucks at all but again he ain’t a Tour player and as I’ve said in another thread I don’t get the hype for a T15.

It’s a symptom  of todays mindset.  Celebration of mediocrity…. Exceptionalism is frowned upon.  It fulfilled Joe six packs delusion that he could catch  lightning in a bottle and beat rory etc.  “ see that guy did it !!! I could too”. 

 

 

I think what you’re seeing here is a good teaching pro , who caught lightning in a bottle , and a media plus fans who want the guy to be the average Joe savior that proves these tour pros to be over hyped.  
 

it’s a rooster illusion.   They aren’t over hyped. And he did play out of his mind.  Over his head. Etc.

This week it's back to reality.  That's just the way it works.  From a real professional golfer perspective at the highest levels, he's not even Annika.  Thanks for the memories, PGA was fun, but now go back to the pecking order where you belong.  There's no shame, you over achieved for a week.  Now please excuse us as we go back to regular programming.

 

It's pretty magical you made an ace R4 in the 4th round of a major, but it's way past the expiration date; we are moving on.

Um - yes- absolutely serious. He was loved because he had a magnificent round, and a great attitude (one without the other is not enough - the other 19 club pros that missed the cut probably were also overjoyed to play the PGA, but they didn't get interviewed). 

 

He got a couple sponsorships - but certainly insignificant next to an actual PGAT member, and likely very limited in time.

 

Last Sunday he was a workingman's hero. This week he's just an embarrassment - MC, dead last by three strokes. He's already yesterday's news.

Not an embarrassment to me but I guess to each their own. Half this site can’t shoot +15 on one round from 6500 yards despite what we’re led to believe. Guy had an all time high energy expulsion, and the high wore off. See where he’s at in the rbc.

The guy's a club pro. Not saying he's bad. Compared to most of us here he is great. But the gulf between even the best PGAoA teaching pros and actual professional tourney pros is big and getting bigger every year. Doubt this guy could even make a living on the KF.

Played his way in to this year and next. I’d like to say if I was in his spot I wouldn’t take the handouts. Then again I never made it through the second round of qualifying a thousand years ago when I was an assistant in SoCal. I rarely play anymore but I have heard his name a lot before last week and it wasn’t because he is a hacker.
