Whatever they call it, I hope it’s like the Chrome Soft X * that I had a sleeve of. Longer than anything I’ve hit, but softer feel than the normal CSX with even more spin around the greens.

The Chrome Tour I tested fits that description.

Tested the new balls and I am left flabbergasted.  I putted, chipped/pitched and hit about 30 drivers and some irons from mid to long range.  Callaway FLIPPED the script with these balls, just like Titleist did with Pro V1 and Pro V1X back in 2017.

I was expected Chrome Tour X to be the firmer, higher spinning and higher launching ball and Chrome Tour to be more like Pro V1.  NOPE its the exact opposite.

Off the putter CTX is soft...sort of like Srixon Diamond and Pro V1.  You really feel the softness while chipping, but the ball gets PLENTY of good green side spin.  It pitches a little higher than CT.

Chrome Tour (CT) is firm.  Not -dash firm but Bridgestone BX firm.  It feels perfect to me.  Its spins a ton around the green and flys a little lower on pitches.  Preliminary tests are very very promising with this ball.

Off the driver CT is HOT and flys pretty high, but keeps low spin.  It was longer than CTX by a good 7-10 yards.  Pretty easy to spot after 30 drives.  6 and 6 on 3 or 4 holes.

Where CTX really shines is with irons...it just feels very nice and easy to control.  There is always a trade off with balls.  Yes, CT is longer and hotter but CTX is easier to control with mid-long irons.  The dispersion was just a little tighter.  I don't have any numbers, but I can say there is no comparison to the previous line.  These new balls are unique and both really really good.  Can't wait for others to test and share their experiences.

Pumped to test these 2 as well as the new B X and XS for the upcoming season. Sounds like both brands have made good headway! Thanks for your in-depth review!

Played another round today with both balls in play.  Again, I saw more driver distance with CT and I saw more spin with CT X.   There is an easy distinction to the way the two balls feel and perform, especially around the greens, where for me, the unique qualities of each are most important.  Which one checks and rolls, which one grabs immediately.  How is feel off the putter, distance control etc etc.  CT X is softer by a good bit.  Feels VERY similar to Z Star Diamond.

How would you compare the CT to last years LS?

Def comparable, but CT has much better feel and spin around greens

There are many on tour that play Chrome Soft X and some that play X LS, but is there one pro, whether LPGA or pga that plays Chrome Soft?  I think the distinction makes sense if it's not a "tour" validated ball.

nope, too short off the driver, not enough spin on the irons

https://golfweek.usatoday.com/lists/callaway-chrome-tour-chrome-tour-x-chrome-soft-balls-2024/

The article claims The Chrome Tour is the softer ball and lower spinning with slightly lower flight and compression. Yet, in my testing the Chrome Tour was firmer!  Chrome Tour X was noticeably softer to me and flew higher and spun more. Maybe this is a cover thing. The compression rating for CT is 88 and CTX 93.  Be very curious what other testers feel.  Cool story in that they kept the hexagonal design but incorporated spherical dimples to help stabilize the ball.

My testing, CT long low spin with driver, CTX great control with irons and around the greens.

So I need to test the regular CT, got it. Do wish compression was a touch higher but that's liveable especially if doesn't feel soft on strikes.

According to what I've read and compression rating it should be the softer of the two.  But on course results are different IMO.  Plays like X LS, with more greenside control.  These new covers could be tricking me.   Maybe CTX has a softer cover and firm core?

I've learned to take compression with a grain of salt, kinda like shaft flex. But being close to 90 I'm not too worried as long as I can see the attributes I want and the cover keep up.

But looks like a whole lot of new balls to test for everyone.

No more of the Yellow and Black Truvis

Really liked that design, but I would be hard pressed to pay $60 a dozen anyway

“Then the golf ball is identical. I think they just stamped a new logo on it." - Xander Schauffele. He may be referring specifically to the ball he is playing, but that's a pretty funny statement for a brand ambassador to say at a product release.

I'm still looking forward to trying the Chrome Tour. Slowly moving away from high(er) spinning X balls. I like a little less spin on my irons, but find the Pro V1 to fly too low. Happy with Maxfli Tour. Would play Chrome Tour as well if it flights higher than Pro V1.

After reading the reviews and tests, I have a feeling the Chrome Soft X * balls I tested back in late summer is what has become the Chrome Tour X. I love the ‘22 Tour BX, but the only ball I’ve tested that was closest performance was the CS X* ball. I’ll be testing the ‘24 Tour BX and probably the CT X as well.
