Who's playing MUCH older (10+ years) equipment with no impact to score?

For S&G I obtained a set of J33 Combos 4-PW over the summer. After adjusting for the loft differences, I shot 4 of my best rounds of the year.  They felt great and were pretty forgiving and extremely accurate just like I remember.  A few shots that I swore would've been dead ended up with birdie opportunities.  Given my then practice schedule, I really felt like there was nothing missing and I actually liked the lofts because it gave me a better gap with my 52*/58* wedges.

Then school started and I haven't been able to practice at all so I started looking for something more forgiving and found a set of R9 TPs.  Dropped some DG120s in them with a little bit of satin treatment and I'm impressed with these. They feel amazing for cast and the 4 and 5I are really forgiving.  I'll get out this weekend for 2 rounds but so far at the range they seem to be as accurate as the J33s but about half a club longer.

Wondering who else is playing MUCH older equipment (driver, 3W, irons)?  Maybe I'll find some non-common gems to start looking out for.

Damn!

I re bought J33 cb 3.pw in feb 2022 and loving them again.Faces as new one owner... Been fooolishly also looking at some Tourstage Mr23 blades for Xmas because why not. Had the Mr23 waffle pattern cbs years ago.. regret selling. Also seen a full set of 714Mb irons locally. Mp5 are now old and dead🤭 so im sure a set of these will appear for me in 2024. Old and as new isnt a problem for me.

My friend has had a set of Tommy Armour 845 irons since 1988. He’s a good ball striker but only plays 6-10 times annually. He shoots in the mid 80s. His iron play is good but he hits the driver OB too often.

Those TA 845's were way ahead of there time. Played them when they first came out and probably had them for 10 years.

My 4w (TM R9), 7w (TM V-steel), hybrid (Romaro ibrid), irons (Mizuno MP4), and putter (Ping BeCu Anser 2) are 10 years old or more. I recently bought a TM Stealth 5w and then a Ping 430 5w to try and kick out the R9 4w, but so far I keep going back to the older club.

I sometimes play even older clubs (persimmons and irons from the persimmon era).

Although I rarely play especially long courses with persimmons, what I've found is that what affects scoring the most is swing and short game. I've been going through a really bad spell this year, and have had some stinking awful rounds with the modern stuff, then played persimmon, played equally badly, but scored better just because my short game and putting was on.

G30 irons I think are about 10 years old

Steelhead III 5 wood and Callaway Warbird 7 wood are both pretty old

Ping Tour 60* is probably close to 10 years old

very happy with my clubs and scores as well.

Ping G425 12* set at the little - with a tour 2.0 65 stiff shaft

Callaway Steelhead III 18* 5W

Callaway Big Bertha Warbird 21* 7W

Ping G30 4-W, U, and S irons

Ping Tour 60* wedge

I have a Ping Scottsdale Anser BeNi that I get out when I'm falling out with my Spider X, think it was from 1997

I also have a 19' and 22' Talyormade Rescue 09 TP (from 2009) that are just amazing still and at least one of them is always in the bag, tried many times to replace them but they give me a perfect yardage and high flight

I currently still game the PING G30’s and still have 2 older hybrids.  I have tried countless irons the last few years and nothing can kick them out of the bag.  Loft for loft they are just as long (+/- 2/3 yards), accurate, forgiving, consistent for me as all the new irons. No reason to change.  Same with hybrids nothing newer has seen anything to kick them out.  I probably am

in the minority here. I only play maybe 25 or so times a year and don’t swap clubs a lot.  I’ll test often but only switch if something is better.

See my signature. My entire bag dates from around 2008. Since I am a firm believer in the concept of the archer vs. the arrow, I see no reason to throw good money (that I don't even have!) at my bag to replace perfectly good gear that I just need to learn how to use better. That said, if anyone is fool enough to offer me an equipment sponsorship, I certainly won't say no ...! 😂

Put a 10 year old Z745 driver in the bag earlier this year, and it's changed my game.
Just put some 8 year old irons in the bag last week.

And my putter is 25 years old. Bought it new, and have never touched another since.

These never come out of the bag:

-1967'ish Ping Anser putter

-Cleveland REG588 wedges (maybe from the 90's?)

These are sometimes in the bag:

-TM Rocketballz 5w (2012)

-1986 Titleist Tour Model irons

-Nike VR TW irons (2009)

-Mizuno MP33's (1999)

-Wilson Staff CB's (2021)

My scores typically don't change between irons, on average.

My 2 oldest clubs are both Adams hybrids.  The Super 9031 in 23* loft is my 4 hybrid.  I've changed out the shafts over time.  It originally had a steel s300 shaft initially, but it currently has a Recoil 110 F4 Utility iron shaft in it.  I have an XTD Super Hybrid in 19* loft in the closet that might be going back in the bag soon.  I'm using a 21* Callaway UW, but my shots with it on the course are not as consistent as the Super Hybrid have been in the past.

Tour issue rescue 11 hybrid and a 2008 Newport 2 still in the bag.  Hybrid tech hasn't changed much over the years.  Putter is ole' reliable.

My best rounds this year have been with the Zing 2 Irons from 1994 in the bag. And my putter(s) are pretty old as well.

My 2003 MacGregor blades, 2004 Titleist 670 MB blades and 2019 620 blades or today's T100 irons are, IME, similar.  The differences are T100 are Players, 1' stronger and different shafts but my SC putter is 2012.  IMO, old or new equipment, the nature of our swing makes the scoring difference.
