Someone at TaylorMade figured they needed a replacement to P750s he played to great success back in 2018/19 when he first joined Team TM.

 

Should blend well with his RORS protos anyway. If they release them I hope they don't ruin the back of it with unnecessary badging. Keep 'em clean.

I'm guessing it's their response to the popular Titleist T150. Has a "players" look from address, slightly wider sole, and a little more heft behind the ball in the lower rear to promote higher launch

P770 exists.  The execution may be poor, but they have similar iron.

 

what they are missing is tour cavity with tech.  T100, ping blueprint s, apex tcb ….etc

A refreshed P770 will be coming out in conjunction with these. I also agree with your commentary above

Yes, no shortage of critics of the 2023 p770 on wrx but that narrative is not what I see playing out on golf courses. This is a really popular iron. Lots of better players sing their praises. I’ve got a couple of good friends who are fitters — all brands — and they tell me customers hit several heads and choose the 770 all the time. I know a number of 770 players who are outstanding players and love these irons. I have hit them several times with several shafts. Maybe because I am a wrx member I expected them to be the worst feeling irons ever made but the more I hit them, the more I decided the feel complaints are overblown. It’s just too subjective. To each their own is all you can say. 
 

They don’t feel like a forged iron, they also do not feel harsh. They feel solid, somewhat like a Ping i200 or an Apex, and I actually like the feel better than the spongey/trampoline feel of irons like PXGs. To me, that feel is way, way overrated. I’ve witnessed too many great rounds played with the 770s to think TaylorMade should consider these a miss. Among clubs a better player might consider, the long irons are as easy to hit as you’ll find and the size is just right. I would not want them to be smaller.

Agree - I don't think the i230, p770 or the t150 feel all that different.  None of those feel like a solid one piece forging.   All have a manufacture softness feel and sound.

The soles on the p770 are also well done and probably fit most players.  The i230 and t150 are both a bit wider with one being very high bounce and soft leading edge, and one being very low bounce and sharp leading edge.

I just put a set of 2020 P7MCs in the bag last week, and shot a 75 yesterday because for the first time in 3 years, I didn't have 1 iron shot miss hard left.  I was confident in every line, had 2 birdies and an eagle (187 yard 5 iron into the wind to a tiny a** elevated green wedged between 2 bunkers at a 45* angle to 9'...and shockingly for the way the greens were rolling so badly...slow and bumpy, made the putt).

 

All that said...I want these clubs.  Even LESS offset and 210 or so for the 4 iron for me based on extrapolation of ball / club speeds compared to Rory?  Oh yes...all day long...never able to pull a ball left ever again?  PLEEEEEEAAAASSSEEE?!?!?!?!?! 

 

Can you tell I was suffering the last year or so with my Mizunos?  Loved the feel and ABSOLUTELY hated the fact that they could not or would not fade and have a ball flight under the clouds no matter what shafts I tried in them.   Both are already fixed with the X100 TI shafts and these P7MC irons.  Now to keep the elbows from revolting against the return to steel shafts from the MMT125TXs...

I personally think these look about perfect for a forged CB.  Minimal offset, thin top line, a lot of mass located low and center.  I’ve never been a TM iron guy, but I would definitely be interested in a full set of these.  Just remove the “proto” badging and dont add anything else and these would be perfect!

Not sure how ppl even put the p770 in the same class as these new protos. P770 is a players distance iron that is hollow and it not even close to as good feeling as a fully forged head.
