2024 The CJ CUP Byron Nelson

Recommended Posts

when I lived in DFW WAS a big deal, but now you have the Mavericks, Dallas Stars, and the Texas Rangers, plus the population in the area has just exploded, I am really surprised that the Nelson Foundation still lends Lord Byron's name to the tournament, once the Salesmanship Club quit being the title sponsor it was done, the venue aint much either

I'm pretty sure few are happy about how the venue looks. Can't recall the last time I've seen them somewhere where they had so much out of sorts from the drainage marks in the fairways to every single creek dry to its bed to browned out areas around every green, and not the no excess water kind of brown.

Haven't seen any major issues for the players so there's that, but most mid priced courses I can think of are in far better visual shape. Makes the brand spanking new sponsor tee markers, logos, and signage stick out like crazy, but at least it will be noticed, eh.

I think that you need to pay more attention to the golf, but what do I know.🙂

They are shutting the course down after the Byron next year. New fairways, new greens, reshaping the course, and making it par 70 (for members as well). Its a great piece of land, its just not doing well with the maintenance side of things. Greens are insanely good right now though (just the greens, not the fringes). I feel bad for the agronomy lead, he inherited a gong show from the previous one...it was way worse before the tournament if you can imagine.

Anyhow -- the current vote is Northbridge Bermuda (replacing the zoysia and rough), and keeping the bent greens just using a different type of water. Going to 2 types of grass instead of three will help, and the northbridge bermuda greens up well. It will be interesting to see if they make any other large changes in the process. Selfishly, I would love if they shut it down this year instead of next; but what the members are hearing is they are going to overseed perennial rye this year so the course looks good for next years Byron; then gut it. Here comes the assessments!

It’s like an MLB game at a HS field. There should be a certain standard for venues at the highest level of a major sport. The Oakland A’s are a dumpster fire 🔥 of a franchise and the Coliseum is the equivalent of a dive bar. Yet the playing surface is absolutely flawless/gorgeous.

Ok, all my negativity is out. I’ll enjoy the golf now 😊

What is wrong with the Golf Channel.  They’re showing  a bunch of Jordan Spieth highlights who missed the cut by 2 and they’re showing highlights of Jake Knapp making putts.  Who is clueless producer?

Is Jordan Spieth still playing "golf swing?"

And isn't it time that Golf Channel and other press folks covering golf quit giving so much attention to Jordan Spieth?

Is it wrong of me to root for Zack Johnson to hit a hosel rocket every time they show him?

A few hours ago the camera was in the fairway behind a player and his caddie. Suddenly a huge plume of smoke was emitted from the caddie then a few seconds later yet another one! The caddie then stuck something in his pocket.

Decades ago the players and caddies were all puffing away on Camels, but not any more. I suppose the PGA Tour didn't like the look on TV and prohibited smoking. I'll bet some caddie gets yelled at this afternoon.

Knowledge of the Rules is part of the applied skill set which a player must use to play competitive golf.

I cannot understand why the Tour plays at this course.  At best, it’s a nondescript, boring course, particularly for TV golf.  At worst, like its current condition, it’s just a dog track.

Between the course, and those awful Bibigo commercials, it’s gotta be the hardest tournament to watch all year.  Thank god for the invention of the DVR.
