Amateurs with Staff Bags...Yes or No?(merged)

Recommended Posts

There are many reasons I use a staff bag. Let me enumerate them*:

1. I am trying to assert my dominance over you before we step on the first tee. You're all like "oh... he's got a staff bag... what a tool." But then you see the mb's and the Rocket Tour covers and you start to think "hrm... maybe he can back it up." And by the time I walk up to the tee to introduce myself with a steely smile, you're already like "Oh s***, he might know what he's doing... I need to step up my game." Then you get nervous, overswing, and are forced to soothe your crying eyes with liquor at the end of the round.

2. Mine's bigger than yours. No, I'm not compensating. Them's the facts.

3. Honestly, it gets really annoying to have to re-adjust your stand bag in a cart all the time. I worry enough about my clubs banging together and it becomes a heck of a lot more likely that they will continue this vicious cycle if my stand bag keeps bouncing around and slipping. Staff bag: easy to secure.

4. Because I can.

5. So that people will write topics like this on GolfWRX. I personally patronize all of the courses you naysayers play at just to rub it in your face that I have the audacity to do something you look at with disdain. If you're lucky, I will stare you down and nod while wiping down my clubs and the bag with my name and logo facing you as if to say "What. Say something. C'mon."

6. I'm a hoarder. Sometimes you just gotta put a 12'er, 14 granola bars, a few bottles of water, a car stereo system and a few dozen backup balls into your bag. Staff bags accomodate this.

7. Honestly, I don't really care about the opinions of others on how I look, etc.

*- If you are unable to register sarcasm, 3, 4 and 7 are the only real reasons. Regardless, I hope you realize the absurdity of this debate based on my other responses.

I have a Tour bag that I won at a raffle. Only time I ever use it is when it is likely to rain and I am riding a cart because it is great for extra towels and keeping clubs dry.

Someone always seems to make a "Tour Pro" comment or give me funny looks but it is functional when it is raining to help keep clubs and grips dry.

I can't really see the point of using a staff bag.

I have never been on a riding cart with a person using a staff bag. But, I would expect the stafff bag to take up more than half of the space alloted for both bags. I would find it a bit rude to have my bag squished by a playing partners staff bag.

You would never want to carry it for 18 holes unless you were in training for the marines.

It probaly wouldn't fit to well on a push cart.

If you were using a caddy, why work him any harder than necessary ?

I had a Titleist Midsize staff bag and I loved it but it was stupid to lug around so I sold it and went back to my Sun Mountain Three 5. I love my Sun Mountain Hybrid I just bought. Light, fits on the cart, and has a stand for the range.

I like to walk but in Florida, it's tough or impossible to do with the heat, and all the crowds.

Just bought one on ebay for $40. I like the idea of having a bunch of room to cram stuff into. If i don't like it i can stick it in the garage!

It wouldn't. In fact, it would likely shift less while driving the cart and not go into your area like most stand bags do after a few holes.

You would never want to carry it for 18 holes unless you were in training for the marines.

I guess I was using a staff bag the most when I was training to go to OCS. It wasn't a very good training tool though. I preferred pullups and running.

It probaly wouldn't fit to well on a push cart.

It would. Actually a lot of push carts are made for this reason.

If you were using a caddy, why work him any harder than necessary ?

It honestly isn't that much work to carry one. I had a mini staff bag and it was fine. I could have carried it myself for 18 with little to no issues so I imagine a caddy wouldn't have much of an issue either. Believe it or not, prior to the advent of the backpack carry-style bags, every bag was a single strap.

I think it's as ridiculous as amateurs going out there in pants on 95 degree days...but if either is what you want to do then more power to ya and who am I to judge.

One thing that always makes me laugh a little bit is playing in local tournaments is some players think they are the best thing since sliced bread..or so to speak. They make it seem like there the best around and then you see them play...Funny part is, a good number of these guys I've run into over my life have staff bags and brag about it. Makes me laugh that people try to use bag or clubs to show off. I may have expensive clubs too but i could care less about bragging about them, I have them cause I feel there best for my game. Anyone agree with this?

Who cares really? If they play bad, it doesn't effect you. It's their money to spend. Some just want to feel like a pro and enjoy chasing a small white ball around outside.

Hey, those that need their BLING, can have there BLING. :taunt:

I say power to them, however, I have never seen a bag hit a wedge from 100 yds into 5 foot of the cup either.

So which is it?

1) It makes you feel better to look down your nose at other people?

or

2) It makes you jealous that they have something you can't afford?
