Without a doubt, the driver. Why? It cost so much more than any of the other clubs, and in truth all the modern ones I've spent $$$ on are simply not much better than the TaylorMade R580XD that's been in the garage for years.

does everyone here have a R580 in the garage?

that would be an awesome thread, everyone compare their garage R580 to new driver.

Taylormade M2 3HL - face is so deep is tough to hit off the deck, and launches too high to be an effective tee club.

Awhile back I had a similar problem with the original RBZ 3W.HL and the 7W. The heads were a bit top-heavy: good for off a tee or out of light rough (grass cushion). Off the fairway, NOOOO! Ball didn't get up that well for a fairway wood. Also, shafts were only 45 grams, and I got a lot of snap hooks I didn't get with my irons or a heavier-shafted driver.

Turned out the RBZ Stage 2 was much better - head design and a 60 gr. shaft - but TM was stingy with trade-in offer. Tour Edge gave me twice as much on trade.

(Funny, I'm getting a Stage.2 3W.HL for my backup bag).

For me it is the 17° 4 wood. I have read so many threads about players dropping the 3 and 5 woods in favour of a 4 wood. Well I have tried this with 3 different models and have to write it off as a completely failed experiment. I carry a 15° 3 wood and jump straight to a 20° 3 hybrid. I only really hit the 3 wood off the tee on tight driving holes but I kept thinking a 4 wood would be "easier to hit off the deck" and complement the hybrid. Wrong! I couldn't hit any of them off the deck any better than my 3 wood and the 15° is better off the tee. So I have consigned this to history. Never again. Happy with my trusty old 3 wood and time to sell the three 4 wood imposters.

Not sure that there is anything right now which jumps out as being a waste of money.

I hadn't been hitting my 712U great this season for the most part but up until this year, it has been an absolute rocket.

Beyond that, my wife would likely say it is my 917D2 simply because I'm shortly about to upgrade to the TS3 and I'll either keep the 917D2 as a back up (which will probably never get used) or sell it for next to nothing.

I bought an M4 3 hybrid on a whim with a shaft I thought I'd like.

WRONG!

It was a hook monster and the dispersion was horrible, got to the point I didn't trust it at all, so it had to go.

I built a matching M3 3 hybrid (matched to my awesome M3 4 hybrid) and it's MONEY!

I'm also selling my M4 Tour 3-wood. It's not the head, it's the shaft I don't really get along with. I have my old M1 back in the bag now, but have an M3 coming to me to try out.

I not dropped my strong 3 wood is a 13 degree and 4 wood 17 degree.

Current bag

I had a Rogue driver and traded it in for Ping G400 Max - wise decision.

The Rogue fairways - not a lot of spin and tough to elevate for me - none of the three are in the bag. Need to get to BST. Same with Rogue Hybrid but I did not use the stock shaft

None really but I guess technically my custom Xenon is a waste of money. ~$400 and it doesn't make any more putts than my old crappy Wilson that was $50. My P790's I got a good deal one and those have been great. My back up 3w (Cobra F8) was the only club I have paid full retail for in my bag, and I do really like it. It's just a little too draw biased for me, thus the SZ is getting a run.

I'm going to say 3 iron of any set I've bought. I don't like hybrids and feel like the set is incomplete without the 3 iron, even though I rarely use it on the course. I've passed up buying used sets without the 3 iron to buy ones that include the 3 iron, knowing it only gets used to rake balls out from under pine trees.

TEE CXG 4w. Got a nice deal so decided to try one. Simply didn't translate to the course. Could be a shaft thing but the ballflight/feel on the sprinkling of good shots was not good enough to justify finding some variation of BlueBoard/S+ to throw into the head.

Headed back to the original Cleveland Ti Launcher (circa 2006) in 15 deg as the longest lowest lofted club I'll hit from the deck. Not sure why I continue to try and replace it...

I had the 2004 Cleveland Launcher and absolutely loved it. However I replaced it with the 2009 model as it had a bigger head and I figured it would be better off the tee. Still have the 2004 model in my holiday bag and it still hits sweet. You're right. Sometimes we just shouldn't try to replace solid, trusty clubs.
