Willett is still very young to regain his form.

 

People have got to remember Lee Westwood lost his game from 2001-2003 and then came back to be World No. 1.

 

You can really never count a player of his caliber to just loose everything and drift away.

However, we should be wary that many good golfers have also fallen off the map and lost their game.

Yes, it can go either way. Like Westwood, Kuchar and Stricker came back from rough patches to have very successful careers. OTOH, guys like Michael Campbell and David Duval never regained their top form.

Starting with the Italian Open, in the last 16 events Danny has

 

6 missed cuts

7 top 25s

3 top 10s (Italian, Irish and Turkish Opens)

 

After falling to #462 in the world he's up to #276.

 

He may not have to wait until 2019, he's one back at the DP World Championship at the halfway mark.

Watching Willett when he is on reminds me a bit of watching Kaymer when he is on. Both the swing and putting stroke look so simple and natural, it’s difficult to understand why they don’t win every other week.

Hard to argue with the standard of golf he played, the back 9 in particular was some of the best ball striking you'll see. Looked like the player (pre-Augusta) that grabbed everyone's attention when he went on a winning run of sorts. Hopefully he's figured it out and will be up and around leaderboards next season.

 

Took down a few big names in the process so you'd hope that the folks still drying their eyes over his Master's victory will give it a rest. Wishful thinking I know.

He has been due a win. And I was not surprised he won this week. People forget he was WAGR top 20 when he won at Augusta and was ranked no1 wagr before going to the paid ranks. He can play.

finding the right putter was the last puzzle for him, and it seems like he got a working bag again. His head is also back to winner's level, he dropped 2 shots back to back and fell back to the pack, only to pull himself away again.
