Let's end the debate: McCord or Miller?

Miller and it wasn't close. Honesty in the booth is a rare thing, and he delivers. He gets a lot of flak for bringing up his final round 63 to win the US Open. If I had done that it would somehow make it into every conversation I ever had about golf.

If I had to pick one I would go with miller. You never know what he is going to say which I think makes it very entertaining.

I wish some of the guys that complain about Miller always talking about his 63 at Oakmont would post a few videos of it. I have been watching golf on TV for 30 years and have seldom heard him mention it. It is always someone else and Johnny usually deflects the comment. Honestly, if it happens so much, there should be multiple video clips to choose from.

I would watch McCord. Miller gives me the impression that he is a pretentious narcissist. No one can do it right, no one has the right strategy for the course, no one has the right mechanics, no one is hitting the right shot, it does not end with him.

They're all pretentious, just listen.....Faldo just tries to be nice, and Miller just doesn't care.......Johnny just says what Faldo is thinking, but doesn't have the stones to say..........

Big fan of both. I like Johnny's analysis and comments about golf through the years. Jerry makes me laugh. When you watch other teams on other networks it's less entertaining.

I've never heard JM mention the 63. This a common meme, so let's see some evidence.

No question for myself, McCord tries desperately to make some kind of one line joke on every third sentence. I can't listen to him at all.

I don't it's a fair question since they have different jobs. It's like trying to compare a color guy to a play-by-play guy in football. McCord is rarely in the booth (maybe on lesser tournies on the GC), he down on the ground on a few holes trying to get a sense of what a handful of groups are doing or bringing some knowledge about certain holes to the viewer.

McCord was very good when he started, a breath of fresh air when telecasts were were stiff and boring. He's 68 and his shelf life is probably past due, but he was very good. Yes, his adlibs were scripted, but so were Johnny Carson's and David Letterman's, that's what pros do.

 

I'd pick Miller over Faldo every time.

I like Gary McCord a lot; his humor is dry and intellectual, and would go down in other countries much better than the USA. Jokes can't land when the audience doesn't understand them. If he researched his audience, he'd dumb it way down.
