Two Gloves

According to Kelvin Miyahira, Tommy Gainey has one of the best (though not pretty) golf swings on earth and should be a multiple PGA Tour winner. I don't know what Gainey's problem is but according to many, he should be a consistent winner given his ball striking.

Some day on wrx we will learn that golf is more than ballstriking. Although sometimes in the instruction forum it does seem there are more short game and mental games threads than there used to be.

Andre Stolz.

Anyone remember him?

Sure. Aussie who caught lightning in a bottle and won Vegas. Never did much of anything else.

Interesting side note - both he and his son played in the same Australian Open.

Fun fact. Andre and zac (his son) are very good friends of mine, his son and i played tons of junior golf together and were in the same cricket team for years actually. Andre still plays out of my course (kooindah waters) in aus, mostly doing pro ams and the like. Phenomenally talented guy and it really just shows how good the PGA tour is for someone like him to win once and never be seen again so to speak. Injuries seem to have slowed him down of late though which is a shame because I feel like he could be a force in the senior tours if his health holds up

Instead of worst 1 time winner IMO some other phrasing should be used. That said I'll go with Fred Wadsworth. Won the 1986 Southern Open as a Monday qualifier. Mini Tour player. Took his two year exemption and played 70 events at the end of 1986 through 1988. Played his heart out but the overall numbers aren't pretty. I wonder if Pat Burke (rangersgoalie) knows him. He played in more than a few events when he did not have a tour card. Over parts of 19 seasons he played 143 events, made 39 cuts, 95 missed cuts and 9 w/d. Made a little over 235k for his career. 63k for the win and a total of approx 167k from his win through 1988. Still he is a PGA Tour winner. Not many can say that. Played some on the Web.com and Champions tour as well.

He won the 1989 South African Open defeating a rising Ernie Els, journeyman pro Tom Lehman and a young upstart named John Daley.  I know Fred and he’s a great guy and his story is a cautionary tale for anyone that thinks they’re going to tear it up on the PGA tour. Golf is hard. Pro golf is really hard.

Shaun Micheel.  His lone PGA Tour win was the PGA Championship.  I know when you win you get an exemption to play but it does bother me seeing his name show up on the leaderboard during PGA Championships as if he really deserves to be there.  At this point if I were in his shoes I would just bow out.  It's not like John Daly playing the PGA Championship with his exemption.  He's won multiple majors and other tour events and isn't a fluke like Micheel.

I don't like the worst either!

Ed Doughtery and he came in 2nd to another 1 time winner mentioned earlier Mark Carnevale.

I wish I could have won once on the tour.

Angel should never have been brought up in this thread what a player.

Tommy "Two Gloves" I love him and hope he makes back but he's struggling on the KF tour, I'll bet he plays well on the Champions in 4 years

Quick google and John Merrick's game has tanked since his win. That said still $9mil+ career earnings.

Oh! Just to cover the inevitable:

What have you done? How many wins you got? You think you're a PGAer? These guys are all awesome and have done more then you'll ever do in your entire little pathetic live. Worst? Still not worser than you! You worster.

... or something to that effect.

Ive know John since he was 12 years old and he was a range rat at Big Rec GC in Long Beach...comes from a good family and he had a nice career at UCLA....he has been fighting injuries since his win , just so you know the rest of the story beyond his lone win on TOUR

It’s harder than I thought if Lehman was a journeyman pro.

In all fairness he was a journeyman at that point in his career.  He was already 30 and had not yet made it to the PGA Tour to stay.
