Maybe we're reading this all wrong. Is it possible it's not a reaction to something that has already occurred, but rather a move to get ahead of an upcoming firestorm? I haven't been paying attention, but did Miley Cyrus finish at the top of Q School?

What is the LPGA afraid of - with how the ladies are currently dressing...or might dress in the future? They're afraid of something - but what?

That's the thing probably 98% of the outfits worn are acceptable under this dress code. It's the few pushing the envelope. Probably just don't want any Paige Spiranac's on the course.

Paige has played in several LET events, and her outfits were fine by the standards.

I think the LPGA has made a mistake with making this dress code policy update. I think by doing nothing the players themselves will set the standards as well as the limits.

Let the pretty ones dress as they like, dress the rest like nuns.

Your comment smacks toward what I believe is the heart of the issue.

Many players already conform to these standards and further, because they lack the "frame" to wear them.

For lack of a better term, the girls that pull of the "sexy" look with their choice of attire do so with class from all the coverage I have seen.

The sexy look probably pulls in more endorsements and pro-am requests.

This policy is designed to level that unbalance.

Leftist philosophy turned into policy at its finest.

The "pretty" girls are always going to get more endorsements.

I am not sure asking Michelle to add a collar to her racerback or Sandal Gal to add 1 inch to her skort would make their sponsors channel their money elsewhere.

On GC this morning, they were discussing this. Sounds like the decision was spurred by what was being worn on the Symetra Tour, particularly by the younger players "seeking Instagram fame".

yeah, my 1st thought was a preemptive strike at Muni He :taunt:

So let's just call it what it is, The Paige Spiranac rule.

I think it probably stems from sponsors or host courses disagreeing with someone's attire. The envelope probably gets pushed at Pro-Am parties.

Look at casual Fridays at work, always someone who pushes it to far and ruins it for the group.

Paige Spiranac rule? Gimme a break. No one is anticipating her playing anything. She's to busy being a victim anytime someone will listen to her.

I caddied for a Symetra tour event two weeks and the player u caddied for was a lifetime member of LPGA and already knew about the rule change. Sge was saying that alot private courses would love to host lpga events though the clubs dont like the clothese some players wear.

I went to the practice rounds of 2016 US womens open and saw maybe 2 or 3 girls wearings yoga/leggings and few wearing joggers. Honestly its a good and bad move for lpga. Sex sells, but when your tour is changing to have more 16-21 year olds playing, do you really want to sell that? NO.

Personally i think golf should relax it dress code in general to Althelic t-shirts (Like nike golf ones) and Golf shorts. I personally really enjoy wearing golf clothes though there are some days at munis wear you would see me, a golf pro, wearing a t shirt and shorts.

I would let them wear anything they want. They need the viewership. Maybe LPGA should make them wear a special suit like the professional ladies volleyball players. Wait I just thought of Feng in a bikini. NOOOO MY EYES!!!

Funny, when LPGA ratings were so poor, they encouraged all the ladies to wear shorter skirts and shorts.

Tough call, demographics of LPGA viewers are mostly male, so long term does this help or hurt the LPGA. On one hand I see them wanting to offer a professional image that encourages people to watch them for the quality of golf they play.

Because that worked so well for the WNBA.

Typical reaction on golfwrx.

Everyone acts like the people who make these kind of decisions haven't taken the time to adequately think the issue through.

Everyone acts like they are smarter than the people who get paid to make these kinds of decisions.

Just because you have a job and are paid well for it doesn't mean you're actually competent.

So I spent allll day Sunday at the Women's Open. Not a single one wearing "innapropriate" attire. The ones with the shorter skirts on, they have a pair of little tiny shorts on underneath, and there's 0% visibility to the "bottom half" of the girl. A lot of them still had on shorts, and few even pants. Nobody there was saying how offended they were by any of the outfits. This may be a new set of rules in place to prevent such things from happening, but I really don't think it's a huge issue to begin with. Of course these women want to look nice; many of them had their nails painted or had maybe a little bit of styling with the hair, but what's wrong with that?

Nobody dresses like Paige Spirinac, period. If they are making this rule specifically so she can't personally make it on tour and dress that way, that's pretty crazy. While many of the players are attractive and have nice bodies, the real fans are there to watch golf, not stare at their cleavage or "bottoms".

I believe the PGA tour's dress code is more strict than the LPGA. Every time there's a thread about allowing men to wear shorts it seems to be less passionate lol.

I don't have an issue with dress codes. Several workplaces have them for both men and women. As long as they are reasonable why does it matter? I don't see anything unreasonable in what they are asking from the players
