2018 Srixon Irons

FYI, my pga superstore is receiving their demos on the 27th for a full release on Sept 15th

PGA super is one of the few shops that will actually carry these. Wish Srixon got into all the shops instead of only the super stores

J, you finally looking to upgrade the 745's? I'm doing these or the Mizunos depending on what hits best.

This will be the 3rd and final season for my 745's. I'm hoping they went back to the 745 shape and not the 765 shape. If it looks like the 765 I'll be going elsewhere for irons.

Saw and hit the new 785's. Still not squarish on the toe, but definitely not as round as the 765's. Kind of a tweener. I think good enough for me to give them a whirl when they come out. Feel is just awesome. Actually a little better than my Mizzie's

Have you tried the J15CB? If so, you will absolutely love the new Tour B X-BL. I think if these feel as good or better than the J15CBs, these will be the best iron of the 2018.

got mine with modus 120 and GP MCC Align grips at no up charge! thats a deal.

less options on no-upcharge shafts than 65 series. TI DG only has x100 on website, and no regular flex on modus 120.

Can't believe NSPro 950 is upcharge.

I ordered mine with DG TI S400, no upcharge.

good to know. srixon website needs update then.

anyone know if they offer TI DG120? I'd buy immediately

Have you actually hit them? That deserves its own thread!

?? In regards to their release of the blades next year vs. this Fall?

...and their strategy of telling people right in the middle of the current 785/585 release.

Maybe there were so many queries that they felt they needed to respond. But if that is the case then they totally underestimated the appeal of their 9 series.

Its almost like everything that they do is aimed at not selling any golf clubs.

I think they are purposely decoupling the pure blades from the cavity backs, as the blades will no longer be subject to the same refresh cycle as the rest of the irons. The blades (I believe they are going to be called the "Z-Blades" from here on out) could possibly be on a 3+ year refresh cycle now (if what I'm hearing from Srixon insiders is accurate), so releasing them several months after the x85 series may get customers not to associate the blade release with the rest of the iron refreshes every 2 years. 5x5 and 7x5 will be every 2 years as it has been historically, and the blades will be refreshed as tech advances far enough that it makes sense to redesign a new blade (not much "tech" in a blade). Very similar to how PING has done with the S series, which have morphed into the iBlades...not on a set refresh cycle.

Yeah, it may be exposure that they aren't used to. I think you may be right there. But, to be fair, the blade market is a very small portion of iron sales. Leaking that info shouldn't really affect their Z785 sales all that much.

Edwin Watts inadvertently sent a picture of a new Srixon blade in an email blast. It was called the Z-Forged like you said and looked completely different than the Z85 series. I posted a screenshot in the other Srixon iron thread, but it got removed. I am guessing Edwin Watts made a mistake. When I went back to the email, it was fixed.

Personally, I didn't care for the look vs. the Z945 and Z965's. I like the sharp lines and angles of those two models. This had a more wavy look to it.

That sounds good.

You can bet your bottom dollar that Callaway wouldn’t be blabbing about it now. They’d wait until plenty of people have purchased the z785.

That might endear Srixon to some people on here.

I think that's true. People around here always get upset (and I dont really blame them) when there is a release and then a second release a few months later. "If I had know these were coming I wouldnt have bought xyz!!"

The blade market is pretty small for people that don't live on GolfWRX. I don't think many non GolfWRX people are going to be bummed about buying 785s and missing out on the Z-Forged.

Saw the new 85 range, didn’t hit them.

The sole and top line are slimmer than the 45 (possible 65 which I am less familiar) To my eye the 785 looked a little more blade like and the 585 less chunky. They both looked fantastic, the 585 looked closer to the the dimensions of my 745, which surprised me.

The U85 has quite a pronounced flange. Not as good looking as the previous U irons. This probably makes them more forgiving, but not as clean. They do however feature a high polish finish on the flange which seems to reflect the ground behind the club which helps to hide the protrusion. Clever.

I didn't have any experience with the 45's. If shown two clubs side by side, one being a 785 and the other a 765. Without seeing the cavity, it would be almost impossible to tell the difference. Head shape, top line, and offset seem to be identical to the naked eye. If I were demoing both irons, the 785's would have to perform a hell of a lot better to justify the price.
