Patrick/Ari, would you mind commenting on the design characteristics of the heads in this pic? I’m trying to understand what each design accomplished for a given player (trajectory, helps with certain type of miss tendencies, etc.). This was done in an earlier post with 3 of the designs, but was hoping to see comments on others you’ve done.

These might be my favorite set we have made in the 15+ years I have been in the custom club business. First pic is the raw heads. Muscle is entirely ground BY HAND. Incredible doesn't begin to describe the craftsmanship that goes into making these.

I guarantee those will be my favorite set of clubs in my lifetime (and haven't hit them yet)! Debated posting until they are actually in my hands, but no sense shorting Ari/Don/Patrick of some praise in the meantime because they deserve all the attention they can get for the opportunity they are providing.

This was a very hard decision for me, initially. I started out thinking "what the heck, I'll investigate wedges" but in a pretty short amount of time was immersed in the process of providing Ari with lots of info/exchanging info/back and forth about inspirations for design, reminding myself of the Don White/Jack Nicklaus connection (pretty much sealed the deal for me). Can't say enough about Ari's knowledge and insight and getting what I wanted to see in design done beyond my expectations. The past several days when the pics started coming I've been looking longingly from afar. Still will be following up with wedges, but focused on the irons right now and then (if the stars align) they may go along on a trip "home" in a about a month, which would be awesome. Part of this goes back a couple summers to lurking on the classic clubs forum, picking up some old Hogans and Macgregors and longing for new clubs like some of the old clubs I longed for way back when. Then trying to figure out if I'd invest in having them rechromed/polished/reshafted and all that might entail with $ and have let them be for now, because I like them "old". I figured at the rate I switch out iron sets, why not make the investment and give up on the never ending iron acquiring cycle (hey, my wife is buying that!) and sold a couple of shotguns!

At some point, will follow up when assembled and in hand, hopefully with a pic of these being wielded on a howling links.

I'm biased, but they are stunning. Can't say enough about the process and Ari's patience (and check your email, lol!) - your blanks end up in the hands of the master and the results speak for themselves.

Thanks guys!

Congratulations, Hawkeye! Those irons understatedly gorgeous.

Great pic, I too am interested in getting feedback on this.

Looking at that pic is like trying to pick your favorite Victoria's Secret model...

Starting top left and going down,

1. Reverse muscle. Highest COG. Lowest ball flight.

2. Diamond back. High COG but not as high as Reverse. Lots of weight centered behind sweet spot. Extra solid feel.

3. Toe weighted. Lower COG (can modify COG higher or lower) weight moved out to toe. Slight fade bias.

4. Half diamond. Low to mid COG. Lots of weight behind sweet spot.

Column on the right starting at the top and going down.

5. Mid COG Double muscle. Can also be made high COG or low COG. Low COG version has a little heel/toe weighting.

6. Classic muscle. Mid COG, more standard weighted blade design.

7. Heel weighted. Low/mid COG. Weight shifted to the heel. Slight draw bias.

8. Low COG, Heel/Toe weighted muscle. Higher ball flight and extra forgiveness in a muscle back design.

I had pretty much talked myself out of getting something done ... pricey. But damn those are incredible. Gonna have a talk with wifey. I take golf seriously and have committed serious passion to playing well. These would reflect this deep love affair with the game... sort of a lifetime achievement award in club ho’ing

That's really helpful. One of the things about getting clubs built is I finally need to really understand what I like and why...I mean, the aesthetics are beyond great, but the truth is, I'd also want the set to perform at a level equal to the aesthetics (for my skill level and swing, etc).

Ari:

Is there really any difference in performance in the Phatty 53 and the classic muscle back?

(Maybe a scratch player could feel a difference?)

And versus the Diamondback....I suppose true sweet spot contact has a tad more solid contact feeling?

Thanks, so much, Ari.

I just got a new set of irons but, damn, I might have to do this. I assume that you guys won’t uave an issue making me something the same relative size (heel to toe) as my beloved baby blades? I love some of these muscle designs, the description of Dufner’s set sounds like a great starting point to me.

Most difficult (but also the most rewarding) would be #2

Most forgiving #8 though we can take even more mass out of the center to make it even more forgiving.
