So who's playing a 4-wood?

EX10 Beta 16.5 at 42 1/4" and lead tapes to D3

I was a convert to 4W-oodish a few years ago from threads on here. Several brands, with several TEE 16.5 models.

For several years I was playing a G25 4 wood. Switched to the G400 SFT 16* last Fall. I sttill consider that a 4W or at least a 3 1/2 wood.

I stumbled upon an almost new TEE EX10 Beta 16.5 a couple of weeks ago (not common in Canada) with the Tour AD 50 Reg shaft. What a pretty club!!! It was hot off the face, but I didn't think it was the right shaft for me. I let a buddy use it yesterday and he bought it for basically what I paid sio he is happy, I'm happy.

Next club after my G SFT 3/4 wood is a G 7wood that I also acquired recently, played at the big minus,. Early days indicates it is a 7 wood that is a good gap progression after the "4W" for my swingspeed, (and pretty straight and high), instead of a 3H. Other 7 woods I tried in recent years were more a 4H replacement .

Replaced a 3&5 wood with a 4w earlier this year, works out really well for me. I hit down on my fairway woods and a 4w gives me better stock trajectory and more versatility, basically doing what I did with my 5w before while giving me similar distance to my 3w. I basically try to setup everything in my bag to have a mid to mid/high trajectory with my stock swing because I am more comfortable flighting things way down than I am raising them up. 3 woods for me generally were in the low/mid realm off the deck because of my AoA and I never felt comfortable hitting stingers with them, just too low and easy to get offline. With a 4w I can go up, down, and mid without nearly as much tweaking to my delivery and I get much more yardage than my old 5w. My 13* is pretty much exclusively for windy days.

a 3-wood that you have confidence in is a great weapon to have...

....if you can't find one the 4-wood is easier to hit and is the next best thing..

Currently have a Fly Z+ 3/4 wood set to 16*. I don’t hit it as high as I would like to, and the gapping between my 19* hybrid isn’t as big as I would like it to be, so I just ordered a Bio Cell+ 5/7 wood head online and set it to 16.5* or 17.5*. Should increase my carry and make it easier to hit into longer holes and hold greens better.

I've got the flyz 5/7 wood set at 17 at the moment and it is the exact club you are describing you are hoping for with the biocell 5/7.

Glad to hear that. I really like the Fly Z+, but I can’t get the carry I need. Contact is good with the the club, but I hit down on the ball with all my clubs, and just need more loft.

I too have that club, 5/7 set to 17*. The shaft is quite long for a 5/7 wood. I really liked this club because I couldn't elevate my previous 3 wood and wanted to try a 4 wood.

I just got a XR16 3 wood at 15* so i'll be changing my 5/7 to fit the gap between that club and my hybrid.

Just ordered a P790 UDI and plan to swap it in/out with my 5 wood depending on course and when I do, then I can loft up my 3 wood to 16.5*. I know it technically would be 1/2" longer than a "4-wood" but I have no issues with fairways off the deck.

My biggest challenge seems to be in the 215-230 range which falls to my DI and 5 wood depending on par 3s and par 5s. Never hurts to have options.. Said with a crazy lab technician grin..

I didnt want to believe 1 degree of loft in a wood would make a club that much easier to hit - until I turned my 3 wood from 15 up to 16 and couldnt miss a single shot. I dont know how it works, but it works.

considering doing something similar. I'm currently driver, 3wood, 3 hybrid. Thinking about driver ,3wood, strong 7wood, 4hybrid. Theres about a 20yard gap between my 3wood and 3 hybrid at the moment. I've just been hitting a cut with the 3 wood to fill the gap.

I have a franken 4 wood...Titleist 917 18* five wood with the head set to D1 (neutral and -75* loft) and an extra half inch on the shaft length. It launches the ball nice and high with ease and it lands nice and soft. I just put it in play, but I love it.

Rogue 4 wood, 16.5°.

I've only had it in play for one round, and am trying to get used to it.

I'm not quite sold on it yet but haven't given up on it. I think it's just a matter of taking it to the range and getting used to the longer shaft.

In all my 26 years of golf I've never been a fairway wood player so this is a new process to me

For years I played 13 & 17 Cleveland quadpros. Over time they just lost their pop. I think it was as the spin rates for balls came down they didn’t spin enough and didn’t fly like they used to. I have a Callaway x hot 4 wood now but it’s not in the bag because my x hot 2h does everything I’d get from the 4 wood better.

I've been playing a 4w & 7w combo for a very long time - more years than I care to admit to.

Never had the swing speed to properly hit a 3w off of the ground.

I never liked 3 woods because I always tried to add loft with my swing and that never went well. Switched to a SLDR 3HL 17* and put in a much shorter x100 shaft that plays somewhere between a 2 hybrid and a 3 wood and I have a great fairway wood that doesnt launch too high and isn’t intimidating to hit off the deck. Being able to see more loft at address helped me mentally. I actually enjoy it quite a bit now.

Currently I have a 19 degree 5 wood shaft playing a 15 degree 3 wood head. Does this qualify?

I like the shorter shaft of the 5 wood but want more distance.

Maybe I try reversing it. 3 wood shaft and 5 wood head?
