Taylormade M5 & M6 Woods - Pics added page 46

I have $1,100 in trade-in sitting in my cart on their site as we speak. Lol

I will definitely pull the trigger on the M5 Tour with either PO 70 or PW 70 shaft.

Just miffed about not offering PW in 80 grams. So unsure what shaft I want for the M5 3 wood.

LOL... yep I think I ended up with >$1,200 to spend. I didn't want to pay for any of their shafts in fairways so I feel your pain. That's when I added in a couple of hats and the two wedges and called it a day. If they had a better choice of shafts at no uncharge for the m5 rocket then I would have gone that route to pair with the m5.

I can only imagine how many clubs that is based on TMs trade in scale.

I totally agree. I was just as stunned when they didn’t add the PW 80. I ordered my M5 rocket 3 with the pro 2.0 TS 8X. We will see how it goes....

I tried the M5 today and compared it to my '17 M1. Oddly, my M1 had tighter dispersion and average about 2 mph more ball speed. Launch was very similar, as was spin. I used my Tensei white in both. Has anyone else noticed this situation? I didn't read the whole thread, but it seems like everyone is super excited about the M5. Other than the fact it is a great looking club, I didn't experience any benefit from all of the new tech...

Not calling you out specifically, mainly because I see this type of post a lot, but just because the shaft compliments your current gamer doesn’t guarantee that it will compliment the new driver. Unless you take the new driver and actually get a complete fit for it this comparison isn’t relevant without more information and testing.

Had a "playable" day today in the Mid-Atlantic area. Upper 40's and breezy. First time getting the M5 on the course. I used my gamer shaft(Tensei), but was not able to get the head to my desired swing weight for the round as the Lead Tape came off on the range before the round. The Sound of the M5 with the weights in the back position is just great to my ears. Outdoors my M5 produced a very solid "thwack". There was no high pitch tink that some drivers produce. With the Winter swing in full effect and swingweight much to off for me, it was a great day to see how the misses ended up.

For me Twistface helps, some may not believe it, but when I game a driver without twistface I can see a difference on toe and heel strikes. The M5 for me today on one of my normal courses was just as long as my M3 but with better feel and sound. I honestly see less distance loss on bad strikes. The look is great and inspires confidence behind the ball. Was glad to finally get it outdoors for once instead of inside on simulators which is fantasy island imho. I need to see the flight and observe the outcome. The M5 is better than the M3 for me.

In regards to the weights. I have 14g weights that fit my M3 and I was hoping and also told M3 weights fit the M5. There is "Twist" to that claim with my M5 head. The main "center" weight track at the rear, becomes narrower right before you would slide the weights to the rear and spilt for draw/fade. At that point or back my M3 weights do NOT fit. From that point and back the track is millimeters thinner and does not allow the M3 weight to fit. You can use a M3 weight on the track from the "high" to "low" position. I play my M3/M5 in the rear most forgiving position, so does not work to me. I will include a couple photos of the weights next to each other apart so you can see top of the stock M3 weight has a larger "square" shape than the M5 weight. M5 weight is on the left and has a smaller "square" shape on the bottom of the top piece to fit in the rear track of the M5.

$144 is before the extra 50% is tacked on. You need to add a qualifying M5/M6 item to your cart to see the extra 50% added to the trade value.

So Front to back (High to Low) you can use M3 weights, but Left to Right (fade to Draw) you cannot. I guess that makes sense & isn't too big of a deal, I would assume most would want the heavier weight up front.

It was moved to another section.

For some reason it was moved to the "Clubmaking" forum & it def DOESN'T belong there.

The Problem is real & it is going to be a MAJOR headache for TM. Both Demo's I saw at the GG in Pittsburgh had the exact same issue.

I'm sure there will be a M5v2 by April/May no way in hell I will buy a head from this first batch or buy one at all until they fix this design flaw.

Wonder if we will see TM modify these heads before shipping... seems they could somewhat easily cut away and polish smooth the overhanging carbon pieces without affecting the performance or look of the club.

The 1st batch has shipped from TM & stores already have them. For right now no fix, but I guarantee you there will be a V2 head that will have Titanium around those spots and the CF will mold into the Titanium not on top of it. I would assume this would also cause the heads to weigh a few more Grams.

I would imagine there or plenty more thousand post production heads that are faulty as well. They're gonna have to find away to "fix" the already produced heads or else they're going to be out some major cash. They won't want to trash what's already been produced. Also, the design and production process for a V2 version isn't going to happen overnight. Could be another 100 days before V2 heads would be available.

I could see them recalling the heads that haven't been sold yet if it's as widespread as it sounds. Warranty claims will become excessive if they don't decide to be proactive about this issue.

Let me say this, I think EVERY single head that goes to a player who spends legit time at Ranges with Mats on top of concrete will eventually break at that point.

There is nothing short of a design change that will fix the issue.

TM is gonna have a disaster on their hands if they don't fix this immediately one way or another.

Just to clarify: does this affect the M6 or not?

No just the M5's on the front track along the lip & the areas on the hosel side of the sole.

M6's do not have any exposed CF.

TM is gonna have a disaster on their hands if they don't fix this immediately one way or another.

How could it be fixed short of a recall and redesign? Followed by a resubmission to the USGA for conformity.

Or will it be financially better to just let it play out for the next couple years by sending replacement heads to those that do break? They’re not ALL going to fail. Just deal with the ones that do and count your blessings for the ones that don’t?

From what I have seen If you never sole the driver & your swing is damn near perfect your M5 will be fine.

If you are part of the 90% of hack golfers & you frequent a Driving range with rubber mats on top of concrete your driver will crack at the same spot after x amount of repeated hits.

It's not like 1 or 2 people are reporting this......it's nearly every Golf Galaxy & many custom fitters. This is a major design flaw........the exposed ridge will crack.

As for a Fix IDK what they do.....cancel the release??? Or they will simply need to do a fast redesign & replace cracked heads with the V2.

Regardless they will NEED to rush out a V2 head quickly.
