Seems to me the US Captain needs a special pick option where they can de-select a qualified player.

Or, skip the picks and go straight to World Rankings. You get what you get and make due.

Clear case of blaming someone else for his own bad play.

Tiger probably had his life force suck dry babysitting the situation.

I guess if Jordan and Patrick played together Europe wouldn't have kicked the stuffing out of us!

Unlikely!

It would be nice if the US team could lose without school yard fall outs and reality show dramas. They're too talented to sweat the mirco-management stuff.

PR is embarrassing on multiple levels, but mainly because he struggled to break 90 and gets his wife to fight his battles, he's going to find life on tour really lonely.

I thought Tiger started the first match quite brightly, but his enthusiasm probably gradually faded once he realised he'd be in Reed's company for several hours over the weekend

Reed probably started complaining about why the world hates him in the back 9.

What’s so crazy about this is we’re acting like somehow Reed got the short end of the stick by being paired with Woods...that’s insanity. Reed messed up a good squad by being an immature jerk, but still came away being paired up with his “idol”. Sadly, they both played like crap, but instead of owning up to it, Reed blames Spieth. That’s like the trifecta of jerkness.

He's an immature jerk. Maybe it's his parents who won't speak with him instead of the other way around.

I don't think Reed would've hit any more fairways playing with Spieth than he did playing with Woods.

Not a lot of news here. Go look back in the Ryder cup thread and a few guys stated back on Friday/Saturday that Spieth didn’t want to play with Reed.

Reed is a kind of a dick and a jackass. Spieth is whiny. All facts.

Doesn’t change the fact that Reed played the worst round of Ryder Cup golf EVER, on his own ball Saturday morning. Reed is lucky that he and tiger didn’t lose worse, based on Reeds contributions to those matches.

Can’t wait for Ryder Cup 2020. Reed, Spieth, and Tiger will undoubtably all make the team. Who is going to get stuck with Reed? Poor Fowler maybe??? Will be interesting...

I hope tiger and Phil never plays another Ryder cup.

They could have used a player like Xander or even Keegan hitting fairways this weekend.

US need to get this going for Bubba.

I wouldn't mind something like that, but if you're gonna do it you're better off getting rid of all automatic qualifiers and making them all captains picks out of a qualifying pool. Keep the Ryder cup points system and make the qualification be the top 20 or so and the captain picks his 12 from that pool. No reason to have people qualify on points only to be vetoed after. That would just cause more problems

Yes, give the captain full and final say. Only then can you hold him (wonder if there'll ever be a female captain?) accountable.

Reed is a fine player, but I can't see anybody wanting to be his partner in future. If I was captain I'd ask each player confidentially - and unless somebody specifically wanted to partner him he'd be on the bench, only play the singles.

As long as he's in the team I don't see the US performing as well as they should.

I agree Reed And Speith were a good team. But a good team mate can play with anyone and make them better. Everyone keeps comparing Patrick to Poulter. Poulter had had several teammates over the years and been successful with most. Reed can't expect, no matter how he acts that he and Speith will be partners. If Patrick wants to be a successful Cup Player he needs to figure out what it is that rubs people the wrong way and fix. If not as long as he qualifies for teams they will have this problem.

Xander is ranked in the 100’s for driving accuracy. Keegan and Horschel are both top 20. Furyk could have and maybe should have picked himself since he is #10 in accuracy.

And both would have been better than Phil. The point was it would have been nice to see some new blood in Xander.

Agreed - Phil should've been made vice-captain and Zach or Kuchar sent packing if there were too many. I personally don't care if Reed ever makes another U.S. team and would add Bubba to that list as well.

Speith and Reed didn't lose this Ryder Cup, and this little spat is just a distraction. Woods and Mickelson lost it with their miserable play. Mickelson, in particular, needs to take some time and rest up for the senior tour.

Reed was as terrible as anyone in the event. On his own ball Saturday morning he was shooting the equivalent of 80+

Spieth/Thomas seems like a better partnership to me.

I don't have an insight to the Reed/Spieth relationship and/or friendship but I do remember thinking to myself at the time Patrick made the "carrying" comment plus the one about the drop, it seemed a little odd almost like a genuine jibe. Who knows if that was the problem?

From the Tweets that were flying around it appears that Mrs Patrick Reed thinks the Golf Channel are biased against her husband, not sure about that.

Honestly, USA blame hunting for them not playing well. They should have demolished Europe, but they didn't care.

Reed and Spieth splitting up, created a winning partnership and a losing one. Imagine if it was 2 losing partnerships if it was kept the same. Reed and Woods were awful. So Reed with JS would have lost and JT and Woods would have lost. Europe would have won by a bigger margin. hhahaha

One thing I don't see mentioned here is whether Reed's play would have actually mattered in the pairings?

IMO it wouldn't make a difference. Finau was arguably playing the best among all of the US players on Sat and Furyk still benched him for the afternoon session. I think it is reasonable to say that Furyk had his pairings decided and wasn't going to change them regardless of what was happening on the course.

I don't necessarily agree with Reed's comments, but I can understand if perhaps the US team already knew the pairings for all three days prior to the start of competition.

I know they all fly to the Ryder Cup together, do they fly back together as well? It may be a bit awkward on that flight.

IDK about that but when they were showing Dechambeau playing the 18th against Noren and after his second into the green you could see several of the US players following up the fairway and Reed and Spieth were walking side by side chatting each other up and the conversation didn't appear to be unpleasant.
