This guy is going to make the USGA very worried. They are going to blame everything under the sun when they see him beating driver well of 350.

That will happen when and if Jamie S gets his s%$# together. Would love to see him in Augusta and those old geezers have to buy the rest of the town to keep him from hitting sand wedges in par 5's

What is the explanation for that combination of low launch and incredible distance? Does that mean he may be hitting the driver with a slightly descending blow?

I think he is up from the ping video.

he bows his wrist at impact certainly.

Swing Speed! he is like at least 10 mph faster then the fastest on tour.

On video I saw he was at 9 launch and 2700 spin. 340 something carry. Nuts!

Think he plays a 9* head so his angle of attack is probably pretty flat or zeroed out

Crazy how all the long hitters on Ping staff are using the g400 max. Champ, Finau, Hagy, Mullinex. Gotta try that baby out.

It looks effortless because he is crazy flexible. He gets his hips left of target with his back still facing target somehow.... Hope he brings it home tmrw.

They were all long hitters before they touched that driver. It has nearly zero to do with their distance and any other company could put them in one of their drivers with similar results.

He definitely hits down on it

Stinger is pretty negative AoA and his stock is around 1.5-3 down if I remember correctly

Interesting. I thought I read somewhere that, on average, most tour pros hit with a slightly descending angle. I know that ever since I have made a concerted effort to hit up on my driver, I have had nothing but problems. I'm sure I am exaggerating the upward angle and also hanging back but I was a lot more consistent with better results when I didn't have the hit up thought in my head.

I think you're right. Most PGA Tour players hit slightly down. I'm not 100% sure why, but I think generally that they have more control that way and most have enough speed to still get it out there regardless of attack angle. Pretty sure the guys at TM told me that Sergio hits as much as 4 degrees down and that he effortlessly generates 119 mph CHS.

I'm also pretty certain the LPGA average for attack angle is slightly up. This helps them maximize distance.

Looks like C. Champ averages about a 9 degree launch angle and about 2700 rpm spin. He'd hit it longer if he increased launch and lowered spin, but it would probably screw up his accuracy and consistency.

Regardless, he's got incredible speed and a phenomenal swing. I love how he turns deep on the backswing with no hip restriction then busts it open as hard as he can. I think the reason he can hit it so long and relatively straight is because of the way he releases the club after laying it down (shallowing) in transition with the handle following (albeit trailing slightly) his rotating core (pelvis to sternum) around to his left. Great stuff!

I got to spend a little time around him at the Walker Cup in '17 and he seems like an absolutely great guy. He's quiet and humble and seems almost embarrassed by the fuss over his prodigious drives. If he really plays to his potential and starts winning regularly, look forward to seeing that from him. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy. My only criticism of his game is that he's a little too hard on himself. He beats himself up a little mopes a bit when things get rough. He needs to learn to channel that energy to somewhere else. It's just what I've witnessed after watching him fairly closely through his college and amateur days. Also, get ready....though maybe not quite this long, but there's a crop of young players coming who all hit it out there like this. The game is becoming a freak-show of amazing athletic talent.

Driving all day I mean we're gonna hear that 1000x this year but I want to know where I can get that mallet! Simple and blacked out, I love that look.

And he finished his round with 6 one putts today, whoa!

Would you guys consider this a mini Tyne?

Yep Jwall just said it's a Mid Tyne with a great nickname "primetyne" I need it now!

Very impressive performance, but I’m going to hold on the “next coming of” until he gets more rounds and victories under his belt. We have seen one trick ponies before.

Didn't mean they were long hitters because they were on Ping staff... Just that most would think with their speed and conditions they would be "fit" Into the LST with its player profile. Instead they all choose forgiveness over chasing max numbers/distance, great lesson!
