Poll: Most beautiful irons ever.....

Recommended Posts

I heard that shops were afraid of toxic fumes if they heated the shafts/hosels. I have no firsthand technical knowledge like you though, and I don't know how you pull the shafts. I also heard they couldn't be bent more than 1 degree, so that info I got was clearly wrong. Too bad you're not in my neighbourhood, I'd get you to do it. Too much of a hassle for me to send them to Ping

If your scared, buy a respirator. Wear a Tyvek suit. Heat them up outside..

The danger of Be Cu is in the smelt or smoke, It's in the fine airborne dust from polishing or grinding dust. Heating up a hosel to do a pull or bend, or sharpening grooves with a tool should not present a health hazard in itself. Fabricating clubs with this material does expose people and companies to all kinds of jeopardy (health & legal liabilities). Casting & polishing dust is a big issue. One can machine it safely so long as proper coolant is in place while it is going on.I would not advise to hand sand your Eye 2 while toking on a cigar but it's somewhat hysterical to suggest you cannot adjust the lie of a club.

Love these18e9d57cc91b9cbb0f245a318eea37d9.jpg

Those are no doubt nice, but I like the more angular 45 series a little better. For the last few years I've been going back and forth between a chrome set with KBS Tours and a raw set with Steelfibers, depending on how the old joints are feeling. Haven't found a modern set I like better.

because they are beryllium copper, which is toxic, and I'm told they are also considered brittle. Most shops will not do this work; it is recommended they be sent directly to Ping. Even then I don't think they'll guarantee the work.

I found this; http://blog.2ndswing.info/pings-beryllium-copper-irons-what-happened-to-the-becu-eye2-and-becu-isi-irons/

BeCu can be toxic if you are exposed to the dust continuously over extended periods. You can safely reshaft those clubs like you would a SS Eye 2 set.

On chrome removal, it's about 3 or 4 grams per head, maybe 2 or 5 for the outliers. It changes a bit from club to club and set to set based on the surface area you're stripping. The weight loss doesn't bother me because I like my irons about 1/2" long. If you're 1/2" short instead you'd have to add more weight back to get to a standard swingweight, obviously. This is not a DIY at home process. The chemicals used (and disposal thereof) are no joke. If you want to do it look up a local automotive restoration shop. Any place that re-chromes things (bumpers for instance) can de-chrome things too.

@NYCGolfNut those look great! Never seen them in person, but they sure are purty! Would love to see the transition from the hosel to leading edge.

I noticed that this thread had been resurrected and had a feeling that the Blueprints might be getting a mention. I wasn't wrong.
