I went with the 699 pro's as I've had to make a drastic swing change due to an injury - I've had to shorten my backswing and cut my follow through short as I can no longer rotate fully either way after a laceration on my abdomen - and although the z765's were still fine, I was starting to feel the weight of the shafts (modus 120) towards the end of a round. I wanted to try drastically lighter shafts so went with the KBS Tour 90 and thought while I was there, I'd go for a more forgiving head. The gamble has paid off, and I really like them. They don't feel as soft, no, but to be honest I'm not overly sensitive when it comes to that. There's plenty of feel when you don't middle the 699 pro's, and to me, that difference between hitting and missing the sweet spot is more important than the softness👍

The DT-4 steel is really soft. At the same time they hold their lofts/lies really well. We've heard from a ton of people that took their clubs in to a local shop to get their lofts/lies checked and even after 100+ rounds they were still spot on. You could always demo the CBs, MBs or TAIIIs to get a feel for them. If you have any questions just let us know. Thanks!

Jay, which steel is more likely to resist moving through use: the 1020 or the DT-4? I am trying to decide between the JB and 286 wedges. Thanks.

I haven't hit the 699, but i got a set of the 639cb black at the end of september.  I was coming from a split set of srixon 765/965 (6-7 765, 8-pw 965) and debated on going split again or straight cb.  Decided with the cb mainly because who doesn't want a little extra forgiveness.  I haven't had a problem with flighting the ball or moving it in either direction.  In my opinion the 639 feel better to me than the srixons on well struck shots.  I went with taper tip heads and KBS 120S just like my srixon, had the 639 lofts weakened 1* to better match the lofts i was playing and I am a half a club longer with the 639 with a slightly higher ball flight.  Love em so far, unfortuantely i probably am done playing due to weather until next april.

Love to hear this yet I don’t as it means I’ll be saying “what if” to want these irons.

699u Pro 4 iron and 699 pro irons arrived today…  I can’t speak highly enough about the customer service through this transaction.  I reached out about a quote for some graphite shafts, but decided to go with Modus 105’s with prosoft inserts installed.  I ordered the inserts and had them shipped directly to sub70.  They called me to let me know they had arrived and to go over the build again.   I can’t wait to get these out on the course but swinging inside they feel built to spec ( 2 flat D2 swing weight)…. And you can’t beat the personal touch of the hand written thank you note and free hat… THANK YOU Sub70!   Keep up the great customer service and communication and the success will continue..

No problem.. there you go.  It blends really well with the 5 iron.  I had them set the loft at 21* to keep a 3* gap… if you want any other angles let me know.. I’ll post a review of it and the irons once I’m able to get them on the course..

Which shaft you have in the 4 utility?

 

I'm debating trying the 4U and keeping it the same shaft as my 5 iron (MODUS 120) for consistency.  I actually hit my sub 70 4 hybrid a tad too far compared to my 5 iron and thinking about closing the gap.

I went with the Evenflow Riptide 85… have Modus 105 in my irons…

I originally was going to go with KBS 105 but after speaking with Jason ended up getting something comparable to what I am used to for the moment in the DG 105.

Funny , I tried that route before my distance was way down. I felt they were playing a little to stiff. Did you switch flex’s.?

Nope stayed with stiff. I previously played Modus 105 stiff and the DG plays similar in terms of flight and spin. Its also the stock shaft in P790's so I was familiar with the feel

I was playing with a buddy of mine and he had the regular 699 irons.  He is a good player, but he was hitting these irons right at the flag that sounded so good.   I never heard of them.  I went on line and after reading all these pages of loyal fans, I had to try.  Especially at the price sub 70 has vs everyone else.  I got the 699 Pro Black irons with Aldila 95 NV black shafts.  WOW.  I had my first solid range session today with them and I couldn't be happier.  I play off a 3.9 index and am late 50's.  Looking for a little extra yardage, but wanted a predictable ball flight. I've had the MP20 HMB's.  I've been hitting the TM P770's lately, (and like them)  The 699 Pro's totally hang with those irons and then some.  High towering flight. Very satisfying feel.

You know when you miss a shot, but it's not punishing.  Best of all for me, is my "miss", the low on the blade thin shot really does not get punished. And still feels pretty good.  Super Happy.  So much so, I ordered a 

Raw 48 wedge.

Received the 699 Pros this week.   Love them.  One issue.  Had them on launch monitor and the 6 and 7 iron are showing exact distances.  Anyone have issues with lofts being incorrect?

Have you had the lofts checked? May or may not be the cause. Also if you are on a launch monitor, check your dynamic loft on the shots, which is the loft that matters. 
 

Mid-irons going the same distance also can be a swing issue if you are adding loft at impact. Shots end up with high ballooning apexes but lose distance. Been there, done that, with the 5,6 and 7 irons.

I'd already had my heart set on them but hearing the feedback from other users here just makes the anticipation that much greater!

 

Anyone have experience buying used off the site?  I'm looking at a few used Utility irons but I'd love to be able to have them swap grips to match the set I've already got in the cart.

I have the 949X 4 wood, and really like it. I haven't had any range time with it yet, and only hit it a few times in the 3 rounds I played, but have found it very easy to hit, and really nice ball flight.

I ordered a set of pre-owned 639 cb this morning. Excited to try them out.
