How would you rank events if not strength of field? Perceived value of some kind? Hotness of girls in gallery?

The majors got their name from sports writers some 80 years ago. Now it's a tradition that should not be changed. But they're are "better" events with stronger fields.

 

The players might have a better field than, say, the Masters or the PGA. But it is played on a whacky course.

 

The great thing about all of the majors except for the Masters is that they rotate to different courses. If you happen to dislike one this year, you get another next year.

 

Most people accept that Augusta National is a fine course for a major.

 

I think that if you were to ask the top 20 golfers on the World Rankings which tournament they would most like to win, the players would come after the majors.

Which is funny, because they make riskier shots, and end up hurting themselves.

 

Not much you can do with that gimmick of a Dye course, though.

 

I guess we can look forward to leaders on Sunday with -15 scores.

 

Has it been made softer or just is because of time of year? Sawgrass was speedy af when I played in early September.

 

I know here that courses just simply cannot be fast until June because of the wetness and need to grow grass.

Of course it can be fast...last week was the API at Bay Hill. Bay Hill is in Orlando, only 1.5 hours south of Jacksonville, both in Florida and both with the same weather.

 

Bay Hill chose to make a challenging course, and TPC is choosing differently.

The :"Target Golf" Players Championship...I get that this is a tried and true venue but can't we get some firm and fast links style courses with width. Allow these players to get creative on shots...A tournament at Bandon or a spot like it would be so fun to watch.

Yeah and its a shame because he seems like a real nice kid and he's obviously very talented. But he's pretty clearly off the rails right about now and I hope he gets it figured out.

I would disagree, he is hitting wedge into every green but is not realistically close enough to make the putts at a high volume. Definition of a sub par wedge game.

His wedge shots on #14 and #15 were hit to 7’ and 4’. Both resulted in pars. Btw he was one of the best wedge players on Tour last year.

So getting back to Rory

He’s missed a 7foot and 4foot putt for birdies and could easily be 5 under

 

On 17th he hit it inside of Fat Phil and got the line from him

 

Fix to Rory’s issues, watch where your playing partners land on the green and hit it inside of them on the same line ?

Strokes Gained Putting is a reflection of "makeability". If you're losing stokes on the greens, you're missing putts that your peers (avg. Tour player) makes on average.

Rory's proximity to the hole has him at T33 ytd. Last year he was T49...hardly one of the best.

 

Edit: especially if he supposedly has wedge or short iron into all of these greens.
