I decided to change things up this year because of age related swing issues. Went with M2 16, 10.5 with an Attas 7r from a 910d2 9.5 with a pro launch blue stiff. The difference is remarkable, I’m hitting it to spots I haven’t seen in years.

I'm loving my G400 LST, and loved the G400 Max before it. There are loads of both still in play on Tour. Plenty around used in the $200-250 range.

Hard to go wrong with either. The stock "Tour" shaft is awesome, too!

2016 M2 tour issue in 8.5° loft. Just purchased one from Niblick on the bay for 199 plus shipping.

I mean it is $495 on tour spec, and the forged epic is like $350 range on eBay via Japan with stock shaft so I am pretty stoked. Didn't realize I needed a callaway specific ferrule, that came yesterday and I am gluing up this bad boy today. Pretty excited.

 

For under $250 you could have a ridiculous driver and shaft if you hunt around. Drivers depreciate so quickly too you can even have 2 years back models.

Is the M2 a much lower spin option than the M3? Don’t know if the M2 is being recommended more due to price point or if it is just a better head than the M3. I’m looking to upgrade and considering these two and wondering what people’s experiences/recommendations are between the two.

It's a better head tbh and you can't go wrong if its cheaper. I played both and found the M2 to be way easier. Wish I had kept my M2 head all those years.

I’m a disabled vet getting back into the game after some down time from some back surgeries (a new job at a golf course has got the juices flowing again) so I’m in need of some equipment updating and this has been an invaluable tool. I was fortunate to pick up an M3 9.5 and 3WHL with upgrades Fujikura Tour spec shafts for 400 Canadian on Craigslist. Both barely gamed.

A G400 Max if you could make it work money-wise though.

There's a few differences between the two. The shape of the head looks larger on the 17' M2. You'll immediately notice a louder "ping" sound with the 17' as well. Weight has been distributed more to the back of the head to promote higher MOI. I think the only issue with playing the M2's is that, you need the right shaft in it otherwise, the head doesn't feel right (hard to explain in terms of feel).

I am gaming the '17 M2 now and have tried the '16 on multiple occasions trying to love it. I would agree with the above, the 17 does feel and sound a bit different, but I find it to be way more forgiving than its predecessor... I also like that there is less white and more carbon, just suits my eye better. Got mine with a Tensei Blue 60 for about $215 in pretty good shape. Need more time with it but I do like that it is way more forgiving than the '16 for me.
