The Biocell Driver is Still in my Bag!! Anyone else game and oldie?

So I’ve tried but nothing has beat out my old bone stock biocell driver. The new F9 didn’t perform better and I was shocked to be honest. They were neck and neck using ProV1 balls on the course so why keep a $400 driver so I sold it. Have tried all the TaylorMade, Titleist and Callaway drivers also. Just picked up a used G400 to try with a couple shaft options so we will see.

 

Anyone else got an old driver that can’t be beat?

I've got a Fast 12LS in my bag... I'm planning on replacing it this season, but it's going to require a custom fitting to get done...

I'm also playing 22 year old irons that I'm replacing because they are 22 years old, and not because they impact my game.

Keeping my 22 year old Ping Hoofer bag, though!

I recently gamed my old Titleist 975J again. Love it when you hit the sweet spot. Just replaced it with a GBB Epic and it truly is more forgiving.

I keep a backup set of i3’s with a TiSi driver that I love to hit. They’re in my circa 2004 Hoofer, which I would still use as my primary bag (for style points) but whatever coating is on the inside of the pockets has become sticky and seems to be getting worse. @Myherobobhope did you push through the stickiness or did that not happen to your bag?

Still using a hotmelted r510tp in starting line up and have several variants stashed away in case something unforseen happens to my primary. Simply hit it solidly and with required shape and trajectory needed more often than any potential replacements auditioned thus far, plus confidence that have done so under varying conditions and in competitive environments outweighs a few yards potentially gained on poorer swings with more recent models

R9 Superdeep, Srixon I-302 irons, original TM RAC wedges. Backups including your issue R7 TP, Nakashima NP1 380, Adams ovation tour 3 wood, TM 300 that is in the process of becoming a "Thriver". They all have a run out depending on how I'm playing.

That R9 is an awesome driver. It's not that old, but the Fusion is firmly in the bag, for now.

I am gaming right now what I guess in some circles would be considered an old driver a Homna G-1X which is 4 years old---- As far as irons I am playing a pristine set of 1980 Macgregor VIP blades ( thanks Mitchell) with 1979 Hogan Apex #2 shafts. I have a lot of old stuff. The newest clubs I have in my stash period are 2013 vintage

I have a 915 in the bag and played a 910 for a long time.

 

In general, I think that anything not 460 cc (or the slightly lower tour/low-spin models) is giving up something in total performance (i.e. not just good strikes). I have an old 983E and the biggest issue is direction on toe strikes.

 

I'm mixed on how much change there is in anything from say 2010 onwards. You know COR has been maxed out across all these drivers so perfect strikes are about the same (although infrequent for many). How much the newer stuff retains speed better on off centre hits vs. how much was just picking up a head/shaft combo that matched your swing is still a question to me. I don't try everything that comes out but did try some of the more popular ones like 2016 M2 and GMAX. At the time, they weren't noticeably different for me.

I had a 910 D2 up until around a year ago. One of my few club ho regrets when I sent that one away. Great driver. Currently bagging the F6 with no plans to change.

RBZ Tour 9 degree set at 10.5 degree and hotmelted. Absolute cannon! It had a fitting for the G410 driver but the RBZ is still in the bag.

Cobra ZL w/ AD-DI6 shaft. Can't find anything that can beat it. I do have a Bio-Cell w/ an AD-DI shaft and it is a bit longer but I find the fairway a lot more w/ the ZL.

My R15 went head to head against the M5 and M6 at a recent demo day and trounced both of them handily. The demo rep was wondering how I was doing it, which was kind of amusing. Either way it re-cemented its place in the bag just like that!

Doesn't really count as old, but I'm still gaming the Vapor Fly / Speeder 757X combo, and am not really that interested in trying much else. It travels high and straight, and seems to get the most out of my 105 mph SS.

 

For instance on our 17th yesterday, a 505 Yard Par 5, I was left with 175 yards and an easy 6 iron for my 2nd after catching my tee shot right out of the screws - it seems plenty forgiving for when I don't though.

 

I may look at an M5 Tour or TS4 later in the season, as I'd rather go back to a sub 460cc driver like my old Covert Tour - £450 seems a lot of money to pony up unless I get a serious gain from a newer model.

I retired my fz+ this year for the f9, still think about it sometimes though. F9 is way more forgiving for me but fz+ was a absolute bomber when hit on the screws
