Any info on the Scotty Cameron Select 2020 line?

It's the result of running out of ideas. Hopefully he releases a video of how the word "Special" popped in his head from his love of race cars.

I'll reserve final judgement until I see and putt with one in person. I love the head shape of the Newport 2 (I do wish they would have kept the neck exactly the same as the tour protos though), it's just the engravings that look awkward to my eye. Sure that's a non functional aspect, but when I'm paying $400, I'm going to be picky.

I absolutely hate the location of the "Milled in the USA"

And the Scotty Cameron on the face looks almost like a bad counterfeit job

MAN... leave it to the Scotty Cameron team to screw up what was going to be their best release since 2008 with some awful stampings and typical Cameron marketing crap. Seriously, did we really need that "milled in the usa" text? The font up the neck and on the face looks beyond cheap and the "special" branding is horrific.

The neck also looks completely off... The top of the plumbers neck is much wider wider than the rest of the neck and bends/ turns into the vertical section at very strange angle?

As others have noted, I'm curious about the material used for these putters. With the stock weights being 30grams and the color of the putters being more of a smokey grey bead blast, it kind of leads me to believe they are aluminum. Considering all the recent mallet releases utilize a milled aluminum face/body with SS wings it wouldn't be that far fetched to think these follow suit. Aluminum would also be easier and less expensive to produce allowing Don to maximize his profits which we all know he is keen on.

--- I can see the marketing for it now... "Revolutionary all aluminum one piece milled head gives Superior Soft Feel from a non-insert putter and allows for the redistribution of weight to the heel and toe providing the highest MOI blade style putters the industry has ever seen. That's why Scotty Cameron believes the 2020 select line is truly 'SPECIAL'." ---

Apologies if this was stated above, I haven't read everything since this thread picked up pace after the photo leaks.

I was talking to some Cameron Crazies who are super knowledgeable about the NP2 shape over the years. It sounds like this is the closest shape to Tiger's NP2 possibly ever....and for sure in recent memory. Looks like asymmetrical bumpers, very low profile, very light milling and an offset neck entry into the face. Of course, it's not GSS and I'm not sure on the tri-sole....hard to tell in pics. But, sure sounds like Scotty heard the call of people wanting a shape close to the GOAT. In the past, you sorta had to pick a Tiger feature (if you wanted one)....you could have the GSS insert, the shape of the head, the neck, the oval cavity, but never all of it together (unless you were Rickie Fowler). I guess to that point, even if it is the same this time, it's not GSS of course. But, if he did nod back to the Tiger shape, especially after the GOAT's resurgence, that's pretty cool, IMO.

I am not nearly as knowledgeable as guys like Weston Maughan and I am sure we will hear from them soon.

There's no way it's aluminum. Aluminum weighs about half as much so you'd be talking about a 175 gram head.

The shape looks very similar to Tiger's, which would be roughly 330 grams. I'm sure with milling out the weight ports you can drop to 300 grams pretty easily. Then you need 25 gram weights to get the 350 head.

I'm actually really excited for this putter line. As for the speculation around aluminum... not going to say it's impossible, but Aluminum is softer than stainless and copper, and could be a pure feel we just haven't experienced yet. I will say that putter footprint and length is the most important part of why putter weights can change. Obviously no specs are out yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if this putter head size was smaller than previous models. The cavity does look deeper and could require even more weight to be added to the removable weights. Maybe instead of the individual weight, they decided to label the total weight 30 = 15 + 15 (that wouldn't make sense, but not saying it's impossible).

In any case, IMHO the shape is one of the best scotty has released in a ling time for the NP2. It's got more rounded bumpers, asymmetrical in design to center CG, an offset plumbers neck to reveal a little more of the face at address. Where Scotty excels is not in what it is, but rather how he does it. The shoulders are the coolest part, milled in a way that causes a gradient from top line to bumper. it's like a work of art.

The name on the face was a miss though. font, size, paint fill. Every other aspect aesthetically I'm pretty pleased with. I like the 3 dots in the back too.

I actually quite like the look, except for the Scotty Cameron on the front could be a smaller and smoother font. I actually like the Milled in the USA and the three button looking dots on the back. He made an effort to make it closer to what everyone wants, but it will never be exactly what we want since he can charge thousands for that.

I actually really like the look of this so far, except for the weird thing the neck and hosel do up top. The milled in USA to me is likely to compete against Bettinardi who hammers that point home. The graphics seem great to me, updated cherry bombs and the '12ish script on face. I am dying to see what the mallet options look like as I have too many Newport 2's already.

All great stuff - you are the man, Weston....

As for it being a "stretch" to TWs, I mean, of course. That putter is beyond iconic, hand ground and is GSS, but, a LOT of the design features are there - Weston mentions them above. I agree that it does not look like the Tri Sole made it. Lastly, it's a little over-branded if you ask me.... the older Scottys were somewhat understanded. I mean, the TEI3, if you are standing behind a guy using that, all you see are white dots and "Titleist." There was something cool about that, IMO.

Bottom line, I've walked by, with complete disinterest, every Scotty in our pro shop for the last 7 years with zero interest. For the first time in that 7 years I texted my pro asking if we might see these early, specially the NP2. If I grabbed one, the first step would be removing all paintifill from all the branding to "quiet" it down a bit....

I guess we will continue to wait for the exact GOAT copy!

I was beginning to think I was the only one who loves the "Milled in the USA" where it is. The earlier putters this past summer all said "Tour Prototype" or something to that extent in the same location. The Cameron on the neck I can live with after stripping the paint out of it. But agree with others that the font on the face looks bad. At least these are much closer to what we are asking for. I can live with bad fonts once I strip all the paint out of them.

I will give this putter an above average grade. The head cover looks pretty good to me. I think the engraving is okay as in not overly done. Not a fan of the engraving on the face though. I honestly thought it looks fake.

I think I'm going to pass on the release. Again, I think this release is more than fine. It is just that ... I have built up unreleastically high expectation.
