Played my 1st pro-am, and got big leagued by a nobody!

I was thinking the same thing. A buddy of mine plays in a pro-am every year through his company. Last year they had Leishman who played all 18 with them. Said that he couldn’t have been nicer, and was annoyed with the young pro in the group in front of them who was hitting and walking 50 yards in front of the group for the 9 he played. My buddy said that Leishman was talking about how some of the guys forget that the sponsors and fans provide them with a great living since there is so much money in the game since the tiger effect.

I'm just busting the OP's chops because his very first post he comes on here and calls a pro (a nobody) out by name. Plus, he has been asked questions and although he's been back since his first post he hasn't responded to anyone. If everything the op said is true the pro is a genuine jerk. Usually the real truth is somewhere in the middle.

I agree that there should be an expectation of welcoming, appreciation, and friendly interaction.

 

If this pro was going to be so consumed with his game, like maybe he was having a hard time with the course, he should have explained and chatted with the ams before and after they played.

 

As far as TW as a pro am partner. Seems he gets paired with pro athletes and c-level types. Have any said he is routinely rude?

To me it appears that a lot more LPGA players are international, so the language could be an issue.

Perhaps they should be given some leeway.

The language barrier is still not enough of an excuse not to at least try and act like you care. Shoot, a guy I caddie for loves to tell the story of EL Pato, Cabrera putting his backswing into position at the top with a cigarette in his mouth explaining it in Spanglish. Said he thought the ash was going to fall and burn his shirt.

Yep, I simply asked the OP to provide a positive account of his front 9. But that would be positive. He's having none of it. Maybe the first post is true, maybe not even close, but OP so far hasn't shown that it was posted in the spirit of discussing anything, just using the forum to take a swipe at Shelton so far. Calling the guy a "nobody" - maybe there was a level of disappointment at work here, who knows.

I'd like to think pros will make their ams feel welcome and if not, Tour should address and I think it would. On the other hand, the guy is also preparing for a tournament (although the practice rounds are better suited for that) so there should be a level of appreciation that he could be a little uptight.

Small story...….kinda relevant. The company I worked for sponsored a Pro-Am, attracted more your journeyman types and younger guys. Feedback in both years was underwhelming and was similar to what the OP was referring to.

Being a golfer, I tried to defend the pros, trying to earn money, its a job etc. Anyway, the younger guys got sacked, we went with the senior guys the following year and the experience turned around, was nice to see a few of the boys stay around, have a drink, they then did a Q&A, all well received.

As an aside, I'm always suspicious of those with a kid's name...….probably more my issue.

Agree with the rookie trying to keep his card bit, but would like to add he’s certainly not looking for endorsements with that attitude, which would do much more than just “keep a roof over his head.”

So yes, some folks like to start player bashing threads for whatever reason, but hardly a justification.

At least OP's may be a real experience, but apparently like his round, is more spectator than participant.

It's not just about starting "bashing threads". My point was that players get criticized or bashed throughout almost every thread. So why take exception to this one thread or post?

And wow. That was one of my worst moments starting that thread but wasn't that a couple years ago? Are you stalking me or something? Pretty weird to bring that up. Or you must have gone through my post history?

Again, OP ------ why not post a bit about your first 9, where you played, who the pro was, etc.? Many would be interested.
