Basically this... except I NEVER play on flat courses unless I'm in FL or something... LOL! I swear it seems like I flight 90% of my wedge shots with my 50 & 55 wedges b/c of upslope/downslope lies. Pin position also plays a big part of my decision as well.

My "stock" distances (assume flat lies, no wind... yadda yadda)

55 SW = 100, 50 GW = 115

This all really depends on target/situation/wind/temperature/time of the year.

However I very rarely hit full swing wedges as is. Could be hard 54* or soft 50* or knockdown PW.

60-120 yards is for creative shot making in my opinion, many different ways to find the green.

Couldn’t agree more with this.

With clubs above a PW, there’s good, consistent gapping available with a full shot. Under this it’s more complicated IMO. Whereas I know if I hit a PW well it’ll go 120y, I also know that if I hit one badly it’ll go 110y. If I hit my 60* well it’ll go 75y but if I hit it badly it’ll go 150y, or it could go 50y.

Every shot over 100y it’s likely to be between two clubs depending on wind and elevation, unless of course it’s stormy. Below 80y I could use any one of about 10 clubs depending on the shot. I don’t always choose the best one, but am learning.

With my Sig set, 50,54,58 Vokey SM5's with X100

straight up 100Y shot, would by my 54* all day everyday, hint of wind or anything to make it longer (uphill) its my 50*

I have a second set of wedges for faster greens, 50,56,60 SM4s with wedge flex,

I just cant get the 56 to 100y consistently, (the wedge flex and 2* more loft) gives me a varying 90-100) So right back to a smooth 50*

Assuming a flat lie with no wind to a middle flag on a dry course, I'll use my 54° for 100 yards and 50° for 110 yards. If any of the conditions are different, I could use anything from a 9 iron to a 60° for those distances.

I’m really surprised by many answers here. Many seem to say full swing GW or even PW - how do you then end up with a WRX 160-170y 7i ?!

Thats NOT the REAL WRX 7iron thats why.

2 issues here.

1) Those supposed Golf WRX people you are talking about are playing with a 34* 7iron, NOT the current generation JACKED irons lofts of 30.5* or 28.5*

2) The Current Golf WRX 7iron with 34* is about 185Y, not no stinking 160, thats a joke.

all humor aside, distance means nothing 100 Yards in, if someone was hitting a soft 8iron to a 3ft circle all day at 100y I could care less if it was a printed 8 iron with 24* of loft... That just means they are making more bridies than I am 100Y and in.

Full 50° Gap, 100-110yd. Full 7 iron, 165-170yd, it's 31° & +1/2" for graphite. Got your numbers spot on.

For one thing, with a full 7, I play to a draw as my natural shot shape and lower lofted irons can be hotter by design. If I play to a cut which I do on occasion, I usually club down because I always loose more then I guess.

My Gap is a set wedge and still pretty hot. But I set up more square to hit the 110 and a bit open to hit the 100 mark. So a different mind set and swing parameters when I'm closing in on the green.
