New Srixon Z-Stars

Recommended Posts

So these arrived on my doorstep yesterday after I won a Twitter drawing. Gotta love a white testing box of balls.

Good news: Two sleeves of Z-Stars and two sleeves of Z-Star XV

Bad news: I live in Minneapolis and we got about 4 inches of snow last night, so it will be a bit before I can give these a test.

I have no specs or claims from Srixon on how these are different/improved from the current models.

That said, always excited to try out new golf balls and see what I like. So many good golf ball options out there these days.

Would guess we’ll see more info from Srixon after the first of the year and we’ll see what the retail packaging looks like.

Smack each into a simulator a bunch and see how long until the cover wears or the seam line shows if at all.

Is it weird I would choose a tire manufacturer over the maker of my toilet paper? Not saying there is anything wrong with the KSig ball, I just don't think Costco needs my $30 ball budget, too.

Friend of mine was with Clevland/srixon on KFT in 11/12 he loved the Diamond for a while, then they told him he had to go either z-star or XV cause diamond wasn't available in NA no more

Managed to get a hold of these yesterday

Played 1 round so far, some post round shots:

Zstarnewafter2.jpg.281b8ee11abb0608f8265906e56d13ec.jpg

So the main question, durability... I'd say it's an improvement over the previous model but it's not groundbreaking. I played 1 round with the same ball, course conditions were soft, a few bunker shots, plenty wedge shots and it held up pretty well after 1 round if you're comparing it to the previous model. Will be interesting to see it in dry conditions and what it looks like after.

I'm only one round in but performance wise, pretty much the same as the old ball although the wedge shots and partial shots seem to spin or at least bite a bit more which I think is great.

Really haven't had enough time for a proper comparison but initial thoughts are that they have improved on the durability ever so slightly, still feels great, still flies great and for a very reasonable price.

It appears that the seam/cracking issue still exists. That’s unfortunate.

Yep. Extremely disappointing to say the least. That was my one hope for this new generation, fixing the seam issue. I know it is just cosmetic, but it is unsightly and it usually just takes a few holes for it to happen.

The premium ball space is so competitive at the moment. A lot of great balls that perform well. So, cosmetics and durability very much matter to me.

I have a couple of ZStars boxes left in my ball stash, but once they are finished, I'm done with the ZStar. Will be moving to the Bridgestone Tour B XS or back to the ProV1.

Really is unfortunate, I've never actually had it affect performance but it isn't ideal, especially after 1 round of golf.

I hear you, I don't want to move on due to the Srixons usually being priced better, especially these 2 sleeve packs but not when the ball is only lasting 1 round at best. I've been playing these balls forever but it might be time to look elsewhere.

Amazed... i find it totally unbelivable to see that the cracking of the seam still exist.. That´s the one and only reason i stoped plaing the z-star XV,  but i have been eagerly waiting to se the new ball come out and was really hoping that Srixon would have solved that issue with the new generation.. I won´t even bother trying it out now. It´s a shame when they have such a great ball otherwise.

As along time Z-Star fan, the crack is whack. It bothers me to look at it, but it has never affected performance.

And with Srixon's twice annual BOGO, you're getting these for $20/dozen. Nothing else comes close, crack or not.

Can't wait to hear from someone what the differences/improvements are in this model.   @Jonesy said it maybe spun a little more, which is great, but it doesn't sound like that big a difference.  I remember the '19 Z Star didn't seem that different to me, but the XV was noticeably softer-feeling, which was huge for me as IMO the XV prior to that was too hard.  Would be great if this XV could be even better in that area.

Just looking at the website, it seems like they're touting a new dimple pattern (and maybe better wind performance) as much as anything.
