I see where he's coming from but at the same time don't agree.  I was against the anchor ban not becuase I used it - every time I tried the method in a golf store I couldn't stop the putter head from oscillating on takeaway.  But that's just it.  It wasn't for everybody and the USGA/R&A had reviewed it several times in the past when they had the opportunity to ban it but didn't.  They then allowed a couple generations of guys to build games/careers out of it and then pulled the rug out.  If it was wrong it was always wrong and they had opportunities to take action but didn't.  

Here however to me its different.  The putter is not anchored.  Arms can move in and out.  I just watched Will Zalatoris make a very shaky takeaway on a par save putt on 17 and miss.  These methods are not panaceas and not for everybody.  They are different ways of doing something.  What's next - ban the 2 plane swing?

Just about everyone on here could do the arm lock putt and still miss the same amount of putts. That tells me it still requires skill, so shouldn't be banned. The pros are just really good at everything.

The armlock method should have been included when they got rid of the anchored stroke.  Even though it’s not “anchored” the putter is braced.  Personally I don’t think they should have gotten rid of the anchored stroke, but leaving a loophole was a mistake.  I think they should allow anchored/armlock or have it so only the hands can touch the club during the stroke unless there is a legitimate physical disability. The gray area makes no sense to me.

I think this summarizes it best.. either you can anchor at all or anchor none. Having an armlock versus belly versus chest makes no difference to me, in the literal sense. To be fair, I can’t putt with any grip, anchored or not, but seems odd it was left at a “halfway point.”

its completely different in that your belly or chest isnt moving laterally.

great argument in golf (shows what nerds we are), but i don't think you can label the forearm as the place where a "locked" grip/shaft is prohibited ... i mean, we're literally talking about making some individual arbitrary spot on the wrist as the limit of the extension of the putter grip, as it touches the body ... or a length of putter, which could be the other way, but is usually reserved as a restriction on power ...

My putter is a belly putter cut down to 38” and counter weighted and I don’t touch the grip with anything except for my hands. I grip the putter as if it’s 34” long.

Arm lock, belly, and long putter are so obviously contrary to the idea of a golf stroke I’m constantly mystified by people who defend it.

The driver length is limited and nobody cares.

 

Just limit the length of the putter and allow whatever stroke the player wants to use.

 

Only Billy Barty will be able to arm-lock or anchor, and he's dead : )

Make it the shortest club in the bag and you can only grip it with your hands

1) I believe you know the difference between a hand and wrist/arm. 
2) I don’t care how long the putter is as long as it is held within one’s hands.

3) All I am saying is allowing a putter grip with a wide flat portion running up the arm should have been included in the new rules regarding putting.  Either allow everything or nothing.

I can’t stop the putter from oscillating on take away with a normal putting stroke.  So much so, I will stop my stroke and realign and try again. No idea why this happens, and I can’t stop it. I have tried choking down. Choking the sh!t out of the putter. Nothing works.  I have switched to armlock.  So far, big improvement in stroke steadiness. 
 

and banning this as anchoring is stupid.   Also those calling for a limit to putter length. I’m not that tall and can easily still armlock with a 38” putter. Brian Harman could armlock with a 34” putter.

Really good point of view.  Spot on.  Need to include armlock with anchoring...or reverse and allow it all.

Ban the Billy. He's just acting in his own self-interest.  Doesn't add much to the tour. 

 

If you want to ban something, ban that shuffle move he uses to get to his stance.
