Greenskeeping crew.  Believe it or not, I actually like cutting grass.

When I worked at The Ranch in Moreno Valley(now Oso Creek I believe), I worked in maintenance. Didn't like it.  Cutting grass isn't the only thing involved.  There is some heavy duty manual labor involved as well.

I kinda have my dream job in the industry.  Tournament Sales Director at two courses.  I get to play all the golf I can handle and get  great access snd deals on equipment.  Although true dream job would be a rep or Product Manager for Titleist.

High school or college golf coach.  I enjoy teaching the game and seeing the improvements. Tour truck would be cool as well minus the constant being on the road.

Superintendent No playing or range privileges. You get to work 90 hours per week providing conditions better than those at the masters while your hourly interns have larger paychecks than you. All while watching the shirt folders, range pickers, caddies, and bartenders playing every day.

Either one of two jobs...

-the person that the golf magazines send out to play and rank courses.

-the first tee announcer, “Ladies and gentlemen, from Windemere, Florida...”

especially if this one gets me playing privileges.

Likewise, unfortunately I struggle to draw a circle so I think that rules me out.

I'd want to work for the Tour in business analytics. I'm in my late 20s and that Sawgrass membership is enticing.

Lol. Yeah, me too. But I’m pretty good with landscaping and really enjoy it. If I had a billion I would design a course and build it. I would simply hire architects to draw what I envision and make sure it is feasible.

But architecture in general seems to me to be an interesting career.

My first job was cart washer (once a month, free golf all the time) also helped close up the cart barn in the evenings. Worked at a private club in college beginning in the bag room (loaded bags, pulled carts from the barn, picked the range). Got moved inside, ringing up players, handed out range balls, kept an eye on the outside staff. Graduated and worked golf retail for 4 years. Been out of the golf biz for 15 years now.

I think when I retire I'd like to mow greens and fairways somewhere. I'm used to getting up early.

You work at the wrong course then my friend.  Our Super plays more than anyone snd yet he keeps the course in the best shape it’s been in years.

But he’s not married and no GF or kids.  So he hss plenty of time.

Not sure I'd want most jobs in the golf industry, as from what I understand they never have the time to actually PLAY golf themselves.

However, if there was a job where I could travel the country to evaluate golf courses by playing them, then count me in. Beyond that, no thanks.

Agree, every time I'm out playing and start to think being in the golf business would be better than my day job I remember that I'm at the course that day by choice and it's a privilege not a requirement. I've always thought being a teaching pro would be a great job because it would be rewarding to see improvement, but I'd imagine even that is full of frustrations and blame, putting up with all sorts of nonsense and complaining.

End of the day, prob. all jobs in golf at the highest of levels are awesome (for example, teaching professional = butch, architect = tom doak, etc) but like any other profession, it's a job.

Starter seems like it could be an ideal retirement job though. You get to see everyone's 1st shot of the day, maybe meet a few new people, enjoy the outdoors, free golf, stay active, have a routine, etc.....)

That is awesome. Why they don't let the managers of a course play their own course i'll never understand. Good for your club.

Facilities maintenance supervisor. Everything from specifying the clubhouse roof job to taking grade shots and improving course drainage employing various methods. I can fix anything- PROPERLY, from the urinal flush valve to the hydraulic cylinders and spool valves on the backhoe.. Age is getting in the way of some undertakings.

That doesn’t seem right in my mind.  A Super can see things from a player’s prospective by playing the course.  Things be might not notice on his normal rounds.

we are fortunate to have a GM that encourages us all to take advantage of our playing benefits.  I get in at least one 18 hole round and a couple 5-9 hole rounds a week.

Consultant that helps facilities be more profitable/turn around agent - particularly for helping private clubs where so many members chime in about things they personally think the club should want or need but are completely useless beyond that member (and costs money).

Other angle would be a mental coach for say 10 handicaps or better.  I’m not good with beginners necessarily but can help help a better player think better and save themselves shots (if they’re willing to listen, of course).  That’d be a lot of fun and pretty quickly rewarding both for the coach and the player - thinking better and making better decisions = immediate results.

If I had to work in the industry, I'd choose not to work in the industry. If I was old, retired and financially secure, it'd be a starter. When I was a younger lad we had this starter, he was your typical snippy, grandfatherly character that you never really envisioned having but you're damn happy was a part of your life. He'd roll around on his cart and get snippy about pace of play while enjoying a good view and playing more golf then he could handle.

Agent or TV analyst for me. Enjoy getting into the nitty gritty and seeing what that can come up with. I think I would lean to TV analyst so I could get into it with Brandel. I think I could really annoy him which would just be a fantastic 😂
