Anyone Have An Idea of What TM’s Driver Plans Are for 2022?

You're thinking at the brand level, not product level. TM's primary brand logo is a monochrome black on white, which allows them to be flexible with the colorways at the product level. It's similar to Apple and their monochrome logo. That color seldom changes, but every year there's a new iPhone color or two in the lineup that makes someone want the new release just to have the hot new color.

The product cycle at TM is no different than this. I thought M5/M6 looked great in the blood orange color scheme, but was immediately dated compared to SIM when it came out. Then SIM2 came out with it's own bold—and not for everyone—color scheme and to my eye that made SIM look old and busted.

The marketing team at TM knows what they're doing. Being flexible and and allowing the brand's identity to morph into that year's color palette is better than letting things get stale by sticking to a brand palette.

plus they have to differentiate. How would you find a sim 2 in a bag of 30 different tm drivers over 10 model years, all with the same paint scheme. You'd barely sell any drivers.

I saw a pic , hoping it was a fake, of a Sim like shaped head with Burnr on the sole with an ugly brown and white crown.  I hope to God that it's just a hoax, cuz it was Ugly as Sh!t.

It works for some brands. like titleist and Srixon. Probably wouldn’t work for taylormade.

Yes I am thinking at the brand level. Suppose most golf brands don’t bother having company colors they sort of stick to. Titleist and mizuno. Srixon too I suppose

Certainly they’re know what they’re doing they are crazy good. I’m just thinking out loud about it

Yeah.. that is going to be fake.  The new one will be as the peaked picture indicated... very black with the new orange/red ish face.. that I am hearing... Taylormade Custom will allow you to change.. 😉

titleist and mizuno are on longer product launch cycles. TM is on a 1 year cycle.

Titleist is different in their loyal base are pureists at heart. Imo, there only so much market space for that type of product. It would be stupid for TM or any of the other companies to follow the same strategy.

Yeah. Each company has their niche and are very successful in that market. TM guys don’t want a “boring traditional” looking head. Titleist guys don’t want racing stripes on the crown of their driver.
My last several drivers have been Titleist. This is the first TM crown I’ve liked in a while. Face doesn’t bother me because it’s not visible at address.

I'm confused how this is viewed as 'ugly' by a couple of people and VERY sharp from some others... this looks very SiM like on the bottom with the weight track. Very similar aerodynamics in the bottom with the rear weight as well. Also, getting the top view separately that looks very clean compared to years past. I guarantee you are going to see most of those that haven't made the switch, making the switch with the Stealth.

I wouldn’t be.   There’s a lot of low and mid handicappers out there if not the majority who have had a black gloss driver for almost 20 years with either a silver face or a black face.  So any change from this jumps out to at least half of everyone reading these posts. It was the same when the M1 and SLDR and the white heads.  It’s like deciding to not buy your next car in black colour without the red pinstriping and grille, hard for people to get acclamated. I have never liked a full black gloss driver.  I grew up with Burner, Burner Plus and Pittsburgh Persimmon.  The 975D was acceptable because it was silver lol.

Agree but from a tour perspective and for many a common folk most TV golf watchers know who play Titleist. There’s no way a contracted Titleist staffer will ever play anything but a Titleist driver. For TM there are many free agents of their drivers.  I guess my point is Titleist need not care about having the #1 driver that stands out in golf.  They are already #1 in balls, wedges, likely Scotty putters and the iron lineup is really good, the T series really provided some lift.

Titleist never had a stand out driver but the tsi was in alot of free agent bags at the beginning of the year that's for sure.

Would love to see a factual source based off your opinion.

I can't give you a firm % of market share, and fly spec is an overstatement, BUT having worked in the industry and having seen the golf datatech marketshare reports for years, they're not as major a player compared to TM.  Titleist makes their money on golf balls.  Plain and simple.  Golf balls keep the lights on there, period.  TM and Callaway always wrestle for the top spot in the woods category, followed by very distant competitors in Ping and Titleist. TSi may be a great product that has given them market share gains recently but not enough to take on the giants. Having been out of the space for a few years now, my guess is that they're still less than half (or even smaller) the market share of a TM or Callaway.
