It’s interesting to see most of TM’s staff that play blades are still in the P730’s and not the P7MB’s. I get that there’s not much tech change in blades but I do find it interesting.

I thought that was interesting as well, and on paper there is a pretty big spec difference that might explain it. The P730 is actually quite high MOI for a blade, and the P7MB is actually below average. At the end of the day with all other things being equal, this means the P730 will perform and feel a touch better when not struck perfectly. I'm sure there are lots of other subjective elements involved, but this is a pretty glaring objective one that fits with the virtual lack of P7MB adoption, especially among those playing the P730 or the various protos of it.

Essentially the TW setup and close to DJ's bag. 5 wood and 3 iron with 3 wedges. Most players pick one club for the "3 iron" slot and have 4 wedges. Clearly some of the best players in the world see a benefit to having both 5 wood and 3 iron while losing a wedge. You would think a shorter hitter might want more clubs at the top of the bag and a longer hitter would want an extra wedge. TW, DJ and Rory are definitely not short hitters.

5 wood covers the 2 iron slot my guy, 3iron matches up with a 7 wood.

From the few holes I saw couldn’t keep the new driver in play. He almost looks too wide now. Use to snatch it up quicker when he was younger.

His early days it always looked like he aimed right and tumbled the draw more. Too much up and too blocky now IMO.

also think he should go 50, 56, 60

That wasn't my point at all. I was saying most tour players use one club between 3 wood and 4 iron, which I referred to as "the 3 iron slot". I was also not implying that a 3 iron and 5 wood have overlapping function and occupy the same "slot" in the bag. Only interested in the logic of a longer hitter using a three wedge setup.

Not a well-sorted looking bag.

Appears to have a P790 3 iron, which has to overlap his 5 wood.

If his wedges are unaltered, there’s an 8 degree gap between his PW and 54 wedge. If his PW is strong, it just creates an unacceptable gap to the 9 iron. If the 54 is weakened, it makes it pretty much unusable as a SW. The remaining high bounce 58 is much better as a sand wedge than LW, which he has effectively abandoned.

Arnold says to Jack “look over there, the best chipper in the world is getting lessons from a 13 handicap”.
Not sure why that story came to mind…..

3 Iron is a P770. In the fall he was playing a 58 that was bent two degrees weak to 60. Assume that's unchanged as he talked about how much he liked more bounce in the lob wedge. His PW in the past has always been 47 so I believe his gapping is 47-54-60.

I always wonder how versatile the grind on the 58* wedges are when thats the highest lofted wedge in a pros bag.  It obviously helps its one of the best players in the world using it, but I'd love to find a 58* thats that versatile so I could get rid of my 62*, but haven't found it yet...

Rory said back in 2018 when referring to the Rors proto that it was the same thing as the P730. IIRC the P730 retail release was what came from the various "proto" testing, but I agree that makes it weird they still make him the "proto" versions. I guess the actual target market for P730's isn't going to be bothered by that on average.

Vokey V grind or edel sms V.  You can do most anything with it.  The edel version is identical to the vokey in sole and how it plays.

I don’t recall hearing that. I figured they where close but maybe had some differences to suite him. He played the new mbs for a bit then went back.

I never gamed the 730s but I can see why he switched back after gaming the 7mbs. They looked great but out of the blades I’ve gamed over the years the 7mbs were the worst. My yardages were off and no matter what I did fixed it until I switched irons.
