Shipping cost increase with USPS

So I own a business that does a little over 1.8/M in postage with the PO and today they Just told me that there is a new size fee going into place tomorrow that anything over 30" long will be an additional 15.00 to ship!😳😠😠

Keep that in mind when you are selling any clubs.

Yep, dimensional weight is a PITA. 

 

There will still be tire kickers asking to buy a wedge for $30 shipped and use the "I once shipped a wedge for $6" excuse to justify the low ball lulz

I talked to my USPS person about this and she said " I was told by Washington that we have to keep up with the other carriers " 

And  I said " what ? pretty sure you were here first, you know, a horse and saddle bags riding like h#ll across the prairie stuff " it didn't help, but I tried.👍

USPS is, by far, the worst of the big 4 (UPS, FedEx, DHL for international, and USPS). I have long avoided them whenever I could.

I paid about $15 to have a club shipped over from Scotland and it made it in 3 or 4 days via FedEx. It hasn't been delivered yet, but it's in Missouri and should be dropped off Monday. No way in hell USPS would have gotten it here that quickly, and it would have cost much more. I've had nothing but good experiences with FedEx. I won't even consider using USPS anymore.

I just shipped my whole set of irons back to the manufacture to get reshafted at Fed Ex for $25 out of state. I thought it was going to be a lot more than that given the size/weight of the box.

I onlu used usps previously--shipped thousands--that ended on April 3, to ship a shaft is $25!

Fedex here I come....

Seeing this all over eBay. Looks like all golf shipping business will now go through UPS or FedEx.

just posted in other thread about shipping. I tried to ship a stand bag today using usps from wv to texas and the cheapest price was $110.

I am glad I saw this thread. I was offering a flat fee ship USPS to attract buyers on a shaft I just pulled. Just switched it to UPS, because the shipping rates came through already. WRX pays off! 🤣

Cost me $26 to send some shafts on Monday and saw the +15 for the size. Didn't know any better, first time I've shipped something like that out. A+ timing as always lol, wish I saw this first!

You can certainly tell which eBay sellers are using USPS now by their shipping costs.

 

USPS is a nightmare to work with commercially so this bonehead move doesn’t surprise me.

I don't get it either. I love my local post office and prefer them over my UPS and FedEx dropoffs. Really interested to see how much business they lose over this. I'm hoping they did all the appropriate analysis but I can't see where the extra $15 comes into play unless it's a truck space issue.

Just sold a club to ship to CO from Chicago was $24 USPS 2 day priority and $15 UPS. Normally that same USPS shipping was around $10-15 about a year or so back. 
 

Luckily PayPal ship station has UPS as an offer (even if the interface sucks and it’s super buggy). Nice to have options especially given the USPS price increases.

I refused to believe this was real until it actually happened to me last night. Really puts a wrench in the works, as my mailman and I had a routine and everything was so easy. Now I am going to have to decide if actually dropping off packages at UPS is worth 15 dollars to me or the ease of my set-up is worth the "convenience fee"

Just ran into this too. I've shipped a couple dozen shafts this year, all for less than $15, most around $9-10.  Now $25+ for a 300-mile trip.

Just shipped from Florida to Ohio and FedEx came in at just under $14. USPS was insane and no longer a viable option.

UPS through Pirate Ship is just as competitively priced as USPS used to be.  Pre-rate hike, it was often times better.  Now it's even more attractive.  I paid $9 to ship a driver shaft today.

Went back to FedEx today to ship an identical tube (48"x2") and was quoted $30+, "that's the only/cheapest option".  So frustrating.  Maybe there's a work around buying online, but it seems to me in store at least, UPS/FedEx are following post office's lead to screw us over on these long box shipping rates.

UPS has always seemed really expensive in store.  You are an individual and not getting any sort of contracted or volume price.  Pirate ship and the like are going to be the best way to go about it.  The retail price was around $30 for my shipment today but as I mentioned before, I only paid $9.

If you are selling clubs or shafts on eBay - Make sure to NOT select USPS Priority as the main option. It'll definitely deter buyers when they see the $25-30 shipping fee underneath the price opposed to a much cheaper UPS or FedEx option.

Ah gotcha! Yes, don’t use a cylindrical tube (or really anything that’s not a rectangle) with UPS or FedEx (or with USPS now too).
 

You might get someone at a UPS/FedEx store who will send it along at the regular rectangular box rate but they can charge you the surcharge back at some point on the journey. Same with the discount shipping sites if you don’t specify it’s irregular shape (cylinder)…could end up getting charged the surcharge after it’s shipped.
 

Super annoying that they all charge more for a small tube you could literally fit in a larger rectangular box.

Where do you get your shipping boxes?  I'm an occasional seller and I was primarily using the USPS triangular Priority tubes.   I get an occasional box  from local golf shops but don't want that to be my primary source.

Well I was using Uline 48” tubes when shipping USPS, but with FedEx and UPS charging surcharges for tubes, I am likely going to switch to Uline 3x3x48 boxes…once I run out of some old KBS shafts and 2nd Swing boxes I have left lying around…

Just went to USPS and UPS and USPS was $27 and UPS was $37 to ship one single shaft! Geez
