New FootJoy premiers kill my feet

Recommended Posts

I am properly fit.  I have the correct size.  My fj premier boas are the worst shoes I've owned. They kill my feet. The heel isn't deep enough to put insoles without the heel slipping.  The stock insoles are very thin and offer nothing to support your feet.

Anyone else having issues with theirs killing their feet?

I wouldn’t say they kill my feet, but they certainly are not nearly as comfortable as the traditions and my prior sets of icons.  They just feel really stiff and rigid.

I am a weirdo. I don’t wear socks because doing so causes me horrible blisters on my heels. Going sockless in all leather shoes, like the icons and premieres, has always been my best protection against blisters, but the premieres are so stiff that they started rubbing blisters on my ankles and top of my foot.

i switched back to traditions and couldn’t be happier. They are lighter, a bit less rigid, and still provide good support and traction.

Anything with Boa is awful, it's basically a straightjacket for your feet.

I love mine. The only issues I have with them is that they seem to run a bit narrow in the toe area and about a half size larger than the icon line. I have the regular lace ups tho...

I've worn nothing but premiers the last two seasons.  You've got to give it a few rounds to break in.  Wear some socks with the extended heel to prevent rubbing.  Once it's broken in to your foot, they feel incredible.  Like any high quality shoe, it needs time to break in.  Be patient and you'll be rewarded for sure!

Love mine as well. I tried on the regular width and they were tight in the toes and then tried on some wides in same size and they fit good. Only shoe I wear a wide in.

I have 4 pairs of FJs and finally have sworn them off. I have terrible luck with them and my feet. I don't have a wide foot but the Pro SLs kill my feet and so do the Premiers. The Tour Alpha is the most comfortable and stable but the stupid heel strap digs into the area above my heel and rubs blisters. Ive had the shoes since March and the only thing I can do is bandage the area before playing.

I've never found a really good fitting and comfortable golf shoe. I always walk when I play 3 days a week.  I found "golfkicks" and I'm super happy with them.  You pick your shoe, any shoe, any sneaker. Buy the "golfkicks" and install them on the sneakers.  They work great, don't fall out, wear well, and of course are super comfortable. I have mine in a pair of Fila sneakers.

Nowadays I do the same thing, except without the screw-in cleats. I'd always been looking for comfortable, good-fitting spikeless golf shoes and decided the heck with it and just buy Brooks running shoes at Dick's.

It’s a shame FJ missed on the sizing because the Premiers are the best looking shoes on the market imho.

I walked 18 in my Premiers on Sunday and they were fine until the last few holes. The insole on the shoe aren’t very good and the balls of my feet were hurting a bit.  I’m getting new insoles later today, and those should help. Other than that, I had no complaints about walking in the shoes.

What insoles did you get? I found that the ones I have for sneakers don't fit in the premieres pointier toe. Even with a wide size in the FJ.

I usually end up going with the Sof Sole brand.  I went with the Sof Sole Airr Orthotic insoles.  I went to the range yesterday with them and could tell a difference.  I'm walking 9 holes this afternoon, so I'll be able to see a difference out there.

If you go the Sof Sole route, just be careful with the size you get.  I usually wear an 11 in shoes, but got a 10.5 in the FJ.  I initially got the 10.5 insole, and had to return it for an 11 because the 10.5 was too small.

I found premieres to be one of the most comfortable footjoys ever ironically lol! I love icons too but the combination of support/traction, lightness and perfect fit w/ super feet insoles really seals the deal for me.

Most podiatrists recommend a stiffer/more stable shoe alongside a nice custom orthotic; premieres really fit that criteria.  If you find the right insert or the stock ortholite works for you, they’re actually amazing.

I walked 18 yesterday with the new insole on the same course as I did with the old insert from the week before, and there was a big difference with how my feet felt at the end of the round.  The right insole makes a huge difference.

I have two pairs, black and white. They were both a little stiff and slippy when i first got them. If i walked a round I would have a few blisters on each foot, didnt matter what socks I wore.

I took my black pair to my paynes valley trip and wore them every day for a week in high humidity, mostly rode but lots of walking around the ranges and clubhouse. After that week they are the most comfortable pair of shoes I own. I still can't walk in my white pair, even though I have 15+ cart rounds in them.

Basically...gotta wear them in properly. Ill have to bite the bullet on my white pair and suffer a little bit, but I always gravitate towards black shoes when im walking since they don't look as dirty. It helps knowing that they get better and the black pair still looks brand new since i can clean and condition it easily.

Loved my premiers this season. I bought those and the traditions in order to make a choice, but ended up keeping both. I completely forget that I'm wearing anything when I've got the premieres on. Just moulded to my feet and support and stability in all the right places. Didn't expect my first pair of top line Footjoys to actually be worth the money, but imo, they are.

I love the look, but when I tried them on they really dug into my ankles.

Usually that can be fixed with the correct socks or sizing. compared to classics or certain icons these are pretty nice/soft around the ankle, but your opinion may vary.  The last simply may not work great for you.

What’s the sizing on these compared to the classics?

Personally I wear the same size (adjusting the letter for the correct width) but I hear many long time FJ people say the new premieres fit .5 size bigger and 1 width narrower than icons/classics. I.e. they got a 10.5W in premiere after being an 11M for 20+ years.

I would definitely look into what specific last was used in the classics model you want; maybe you have tried a shoe with the same last already & can validate that way.
