Better Players with Yellow Ball?

I'm not a low handicap but plenty nerdy when it comes to some things.  Scientifically, 555 nanometer wavelength light is the most visible light to human eyes.  It's a neon green color like lime colored Vice balls and Oncore's green golf balls. Green would be the best, yellow would probably be second best.

This sent me down the rabbit hole looking in to the vice balls.... really intrigued.  Might go with a these next time i re-up my stock.

I was an early re-adopter of the yellow balls when the first made their reappearance (in earnest) in the 2000's. I can still remember when different colored balls - particularly orange - were all the rage in the 80's (see "Caddyshack"). It's one of the reasons I gravitated to Srixon balls very early.

Initially, I played them for the sole reason that a yellow ball made it easier to distinguish my ball from others in my group. It alleviated a lot of anxiety. I play mostly muni's as a single. You'd be surprised by the number of weekend hacks that want to "claim your shot" if you know what I mean.

Over the years, I began to see more and more yellow balls showing up. I couldn't count on that to distinguish my ball.

So, I reverted back to white - and now I put a big red sharpie blob on every ball I play.

Honestly, I can't say I've ever found a ball that was easier to find or less-easy to lose. With every golf ball, the key is to keep it in the fairway. That makes things easier.

Color of ball doesn't have as much to do with handicap or choice as how you as a golfer, feel about it and see yourself.  A few of my friends play yellow balls.  I tried them sometime back, couldn't get my head around the idea, my weirdness.  Yellow balls are used on the Champion's tour a great deal, but not so much on the PGA Tour...wonder why not.  I am uncertain if either of my balls come in yellow, but maybe I'll try again.

So I read somewhere that the color yellow stands out more to the human eye than white. I belong to a club and play at my home course like 95% of the time. Despite knowing my typical landing spots, I still lose balls in the rough regularly. Part of that is bc I’m a walker and another is that this time of year I play alone a lot.

Was thinking of giving some yellow prov1x’s or tp5x’s a shot but part of me feels like it’s a high HC move. I play to an 8 currently and if it helped me find balls more often I’d get over it fast.

Any better players make the switch and have it stick?

Who cares what color it is.  If it works, it works.

Not a low handicap here, but I am learning MY game and the supersofts seem to be just so consistent given my slower swing speed. The matte red also really suits my eye and I can see them in the air soo much better. Got a regular playing partner that has a total mental block on colored balls and gives me s*** constantly but I could not care less

I fluctuate between a +1 and 1. I like the yellow ball, especially in the fall because of the course I play and the amount of leaves on the ground. I do,however, swear the yellow feels different in all aspects to its white counter part.

I don't know what it is about the yellow ones but it does feel like there's a difference in the feel. The Srixon Z-Star XV that I used to play would get chewed up on white balls but the yellow ones were indestructible. If you hit a tree with it, the tree was coming out with worse damage.

I simply can't track a yellow ball in the air. Any time I play with someone who uses yellow balls I'll let it be known on the first tee that they're kinda on their own in that regard.

Something is definitely different between Srixon's yellow and white formulations. I'm a 1ish HC, play Srixon Zstar, and can't stand the grass stains on the white version. Much less if it hits a cartpath/tree/etc.

Switched to the yellow version and I think I'd need a belt sander to damage it at all.

Also, I'm VERY colorblind. Not shades of grey, but i've mowed over bright orange extension cords in the yard. The yellow ball stick out, and if anyone pulls out an orange/red/blue ball - I tell them they are on their own with finding it.

I would say that in the winter when the grass is brown it stands out more, but in general I lose more balls that are colored than white

One of my long time playing partners just switched to yellow ProV1s this year. He’s almost blind in one eye due to a medical issue and in the first part of the year he hit the wrong ball 5-6 times  couldn't see his mark on the ball. So we talked him into trying out  a yellow ball. He complained at first about the color but now likes playing them.

Tried resisting the yellow for a long time.. finally switched. Can’t say I hit it any better but I do like the contrast slightly better against the clubs. Also, no one I play with hits yellow so it’s just easier to know where I ended up. I do think it’s slightly easier to track in the air but my eyes aren’t the best.

Play yellow Prov1X.  Love yellow golf ball.

Oddly, I was at a Foresight simulator a few days ago.  The fellow who runs it didn't think much of it, because he had someone use a yellow Chrome Soft.  But after a number of hits, the spin numbers were ridiculously off.  Somehow the paint Titleist uses doesn't show up.  When he dug up a couple white balls, I was able to get more accurate data.

Not making any changes because of this, but just an FYI.

Yellow golf balls are legit, only golf bro losers say negative things about them. I play yellow Pro V1’s almost exclusively, can find them better and they perform just the same as white.

I’m a recycled/used golf ball guy, yellow golf balls can’t be faked or refurbished like white golf balls.

To me the colour makes no difference whatsoever in terms of being easy to see/find. A yellow ball is no easier to see in the air or find in the rough than a white ball in my experience. But I enjoy playing yellow balls because I can spot my ball easily from a mile away and know it is mine assuming the rest of my fourball are playing white balls, which they usually are. Also on busy days it means no other schmuck is likely to mistakenly hit my ball thinking it is theirs.

As for the correlation to handicap ... Lol 🤣😂🤣

About a month ago I walked on to a course as a single and joined 3 other singles. We all played yellow balls. Weird.

I don't have any. 🙂

I have about a 50/50 split. Yellow ball is my usual gamer but if I'm hitting say a provisional ball, or I'm having a rough round and losing balls I sometimes switch to a white ball.
