Better Players with Yellow Ball?

been as low as a 2 handicap and I have been playing Z-Star Yellow for years.  I can see Yellow balls far easier than white and I do think they have saved me strokes by eliminating lost balls - they stand out like dogs balls from a good distance.

Also, I'm VERY colorblind. Not shades of grey, but i've mowed over bright orange extension cords in the yard. The yellow ball stick out, and if anyone pulls out an orange/red/blue ball - I tell them they are on their own with finding it.

Same here. Orange, red, pink... Sorry dude, I am red/green colorblind. I could lose a red ball on the freakin' green.

played in a group of 4 on the weekend and 3 out of the 4 were playing yellow balls - Titleist, Srixon and Bridgestone.  all for the same reason as me - easier to see in all conditions and easier to find.  group in front of us had 2 players using yellow balls too.  never seen so many lol.

Probably been brought up already but here it is again just in case.

Not that I’m watching a lot but I dont recall seeing a white tennis ball in years. Yellow seems to be the only one seen in that sport.  There must be a reason and i wonder how long golf will stick to its traditional white ball.  Think it took a long time for tennis to switch, we seem to be in the middle of it

I use yellow balls most of the year but think in the fall i see or should i say find a white ball in the leaves better than yellow.

Paging our friend @sevenfourate😃

Ha ! Your friend who’s currently +1.1 index and whose ageing eyes love his Yellow balls of the TaylorMade TP5X variety; more than life itself 😂

**Plenty seem to dislike this version of the ball (Preferring the fabled uber low spin 2019 version), but for me it’s just perfect. Particularly love this from 20-70 yards. Just one hop and controlled stop: time after time 👍

Durabilty isn’t the best ever I admit. And possibly any cover damage looks worse on a semi-shredded Yellow cover - compared to white. But soft, grippy tyres on a race car don’t have great longevity either….. 😉

For me it’s ‘better’ in helping me ‘focus’ at address in Yellow. I can certainly follow its flight better. And often being the only Yellow ball in the group - it’s easy to see who’s who.

There’s no going back for me. White is just so ‘2000’s’ 😎😊

I've been playing yellow for at least past 5 years, likely more....much easier to track and see once your eyes start getting older.

Interesting discussion.  I will echo that for older eyes, yellow are awesome.   Playing yellow V1s presently and I will see it from start to finish.  They especially stand out when it is colder because everything is brown.

I find the discussion funny in that we are talking about the propriety of a yellow ball in the age of many more obnoxious but seemingly accepted things on a course other than that.

Im play yellow balls when i can get them in my preferred ball at the time which i cant always find. Have one sitting on my ball rack that i shot my career low with and it was a yellow Pro V1.

Colors by Callaway, and various white under a 365nm uv flashlight.

This is how I hunt lost shag balls now at home.

Methinks the better one plays, the less the ball matters. I'm just tired of losing balls in the fairway and rough with leaves and brownness. Colours-I just picked up 4 dozen, one each: red, orange, green, and yellow.  Also, if I recall correctly Tom Kite played orange Prostaff in the 80's, balata era. He or someone did.

my drives are going farther than my aging eyes can see, not a bad problem I guess! I'll get teased every once in awhile, but I always say, "if I hit it as short as you do, I'd still be playing white balls!", and then crush a drive 320 yards, lol

Jerry Pate played an orange ball and Hale Irwin played a yellow. I don't remember Kite playing a colored ball.

I always preferred yellow golf balls, being colourblind, but have no problem with white ones. But I see no reason why balls keep being white, when yellow it’s easier to spot against the blue and green blackground, let alone the frowning when someone is using one.

Tennis balls used to be white:

I play to a 4 and only play yellow balls. Just easier to see in the air. Easier to see on the grass. And I quite like knowing which ball is mine even from distance when playing in a group. Other people are driving circles around in the fairway yelling out "Titleist #2 over here. Oh it has 3 red dots on it. Heres a Taylormade, who was playing the Taylormade? Nobody? Oh yeah, I forgot I hit that one." I dont mind getting judged on the first tee box either. Usually ladies and hacks are playing non white.

The only drawback is when someone else is playing yellow. Doesnt happen much, but they usually assume my ball is theirs all day and I have to break the bad news that they are 40 yards back.

I can get down to a 6 or so when I'm playing a lot, currently a 7.4. I play the yellow Snell MTB X, and Vice pro plus lime green and yellow/orange fades. If anyone teases me, I always say I'd play a white ball too if I hit as short as they do, lol, and then smoke a drive 330 yards and just smile at them. Works every time.

I was an early re-adopter of the yellow balls when the first made their reappearance (in earnest) in the 2000's. I can still remember when different colored balls - particularly orange - were all the rage in the 80's (see "Caddyshack"). It's one of the reasons I gravitated to Srixon balls very early.

Initially, I played them for the sole reason that a yellow ball made it easier to distinguish my ball from others in my group. It alleviated a lot of anxiety. I play mostly muni's as a single. You'd be surprised by the number of weekend hacks that want to "claim your shot" if you know what I mean.

Over the years, I began to see more and more yellow balls showing up. I couldn't count on that to distinguish my ball.

So, I reverted back to white - and now I put a big red sharpie blob on every ball I play.

Honestly, I can't say I've ever found a ball that was easier to find or less-easy to lose. With every golf ball, the key is to keep it in the fairway. That makes things easier.

I bought a couple dozen of Carls black dot balls a couple years ago, a dime size black dot covering a logo of some kind. A guy we played with in September “found” one and played it😳
