Last Friday's landslide at Black's Beach is close(approx 800 yards) to Torrey Pines South 12th hole and adjacent to the glider port.  Though I have never played either T.P. course, I am in the area a lot cycling and hiking.  It is a gorgeous spot and subject to nature's whims.

 

Saturday finish will include 60F forecast w/ clouds.

Grandstands at times create unfair advantages for players and IMO the 18th at Torrey South is one of the biggest.  That water can be taken completely out of play for someone going for it in 2 because nobody can fly those grandstands w/a FW so they get a drop from the stands and it's not a difficult chip for the pros.  If those grandstands weren't there it'd be much more difficult pitching up from where the ball would come to rest over the green.

 

This would bring the water back in play because guys would need more precision from that longer distance. 

 

This was exactly what used to always happen at the ANA on the LPGA right? Hit it long over the green, get a drop and try your chip at eagle. 

 

To be fair, going long of that green to the sunday pin location is a bit tricky with the rough and greens sloping away towards the water.

They can show the nude beach goers. But may be it is too cold at this time. Black Beach is a nude beach. I was a UCSD student, I went to the beach and most of the nude folks were very old folks.

A Hanse "restoration" someday would be amazing.  The recent renovations by Jones were underwhelming and exceedingly expensive.

Yes.  Phil Mickelson also had a bid in for the redesign for the North but lost out to Weiskopf (true).  Thus fueling his hatred of the PGA Tour and eventual departure to LIV (false/speculation).

It was indeed and I am of the opinion he did a very poor job. Those two courses could be (and should be) great. They have nothing on any Doak or Hanse course I have played (other than amazing scenery and good topography). I still think they are good!

Enjoyed what I saw of it last night - particularly with them going between the courses. The whole broadcast seemed quite laid back which was nice as well. Big event obviously but not jamming FedEx Cup and this that and the next thing down our throats, just watching some of the best golfers in the world doing their thing.

Watching on + right now. Looks like the wind is up. Should be a fun watch! I’ve read a few in the past talk negatively about Torrey. Typically it’s something like “The only thing special about it is its location on the Pacific…” I’m going on record saying I like it a lot. And if it’s mostly for the gorgeous ocean views, so what! I’ve been watching for 10 min and have already been taken by how beautiful it is. Especially on a day like today. Breeze has blown out any crud in the sky so it’s crystal clear, beautiful blue ocean and sky contrasted with the dark green grass and trees… Stunning. I also really enjoy the 2 finishing holes on a tight Sunday. On 17 you have the OB down the left side and on 18 you have the water making going for it in two a real decision to make if you don’t hit a great drive.
