4H - 1

7i - 1

PW - 2

I do not pay attention to "tee shot clubs," even when I was tracking all my stats.

Club choices depend on conditions, hole configuration, length, and what course management tells me.   Furthermore, I am not a fan of Driver, as it ruins more scores than most care to acknowledge.

I typically use 9 of my 14 clubs off the tee at my current home course. Course is very short and the wind blows all the time making for lots of unusual choices off the tee.

I use the SW, PW, and 8i on the 4 par 3s.

4 iron - 4

5 iron - 2

6/7 iron -2

Pw-9 iron - 2

the driver can go up or down by 2 depending on tee placement. And usually the 3 wood and hybrid will go up or down opposite of the driver. This is if playing prudently.  I can hit driver 10 times if I’m playing as aggressively as possible. But that’s all that it’s even remotely possible on.  And then a fairway missed is dead or OB in alot of spots.

Depending on course conditions, I might lay up on some holes, or I might go for driver to carry some fairway bunkers. Assuming normal conditions at my home course, my typical "game plan" is:

Driver: 5

3 wood: 2

5 wood: 3

4 iron: 3

5 iron: 2

6 iron: 1

8 iron: 1

9 iron: 1

-----

In-depth breakdown:

Laurel Hill Golf Club (Lorton, VA). I usually play from Blue tees, which are 6730 yards (73.3/144).

Hole 1: Driver if I'm feeling confident after warmup and there isn't much wind. There are fairway bunkers with 270 carry on the left, 280 carry on the right. If I hit driver, then I try to start over the left bunkers and fade into the fairway. If conditions are tough, then I'll pull the 5 wood and hit straight at the right bunkers (260 to reach, I'll never hit into them with 5 wood, but it leaves about 180 to the center).

Hole 2: Uphill tee shot, bunker at the top of the hill with a 250 carry. Same calculus as Hole 1, I'll pull driver if I'm confident and the wind is friendly, otherwise I'll lay up with a 5 iron to leave about 150 to the center.

Hole 3: Nasty tee shot over a ravine with a dot bunker 250 in the middle of the fairway, and two fairway bunkers on the right with 270 carry. Usually a driver hole, but sometimes I'll play safe and take 5 wood or even 4 iron to avoid the bunkers. Laying up makes it almost a guaranteed three shot hole, with 210 uphill to the green.

Hole 4: 170 yard par 3 that's downhill about 50 yards. Almost always 9 iron, might pull PW if the pin is right on the front of the green.

Hole 5: Par 5, always 5 wood to the end of the split fairway. Leaves either a 210 shot over bunkers to go for the green or an easy layup.

Hole 6: Driver always.

Hole 7: Driveable par 4, but requires extreme precision. If there's no wind, I'll go for it with either 3 wood or driver, otherwise I lay up with 4 iron.

Hole 8: 215 yard par 3, slightly downhill. Depending on wind I'll take either 5 iron or 4 iron.

Hole 9: Par 5 that's almost impossible to go for in 2 even with a perfect drive. I'll take 3 wood to the widest part of the fairway to set up an easy layup.

Hole 10: 4 iron or 5 wood depending on where the tee boxes are.

Hole 11: Anything from GW to 7 iron depending on where the tee is and where the flag is.

Hole 12: Driver or 3 wood depending on conditions and how I'm feeling (usually driver, although 3 wood is probably smarter).

Hole 13: Historically I've taken 3 wood, but that lands me in the middle of a fairway bunker complex. I'm probably going to switch to taking 4 iron off the tee, leaving 170 to the center.

Hole 14: Uphill par 3, could be anything from 6 iron to 4 iron.

Hole 15: Uphill par 5 with a split fairway, either 3 wood or 5 wood depending on the tee boxes.

Hole 16: Downhill par 3, anything from 8 iron to 6 iron.

Hole 17: Almost always driver, sets up my fade perfectly. If my driver is misbehaving, then 3 wood leaves 200 to the center.

Hole 18: Par 5 with a hazard cutting across the fairway at 285, so I'll take 5 wood or 3 wood depending on how hard the fairways are in order to eliminate the possibility of rolling into the hazard. This leaves anything from a 190-230 carry over water to go for the green, or a simple layup to make it a 3 shot hole.

My home course is 9 holes so here's how I usually play it with decent conditions

1 par 4- driver

2 par 4- 17° hybrid

3 par 3- 6 iron majority, may go 7 if feeling great, or if tee back hole back and feeling off 5 hybrid

4 par 4- driver or 17° hybrid if I don't feel like waiting for green to clear

5 par 4- driver

6 par 3- 4 hybrid

7 par 5- driver 99% of the time, may use 6 iron once in a blue moon

8 par 3- 7 or 8 iron

9 par 4- accuracy driver

I usually use distance driver for tee shots except 9. If I'm swinging well I keep using it, but will switch to accuracy driver if not swinging well.

My home course is very short at 6342 yards hence the wedges get used the most for approach shots.  Club selection varies depending on wind the firmness of the turf.  There's also tons of trees, but there are three short par 4's that can be reached with a good tee shot for me depending on the wind.  Low score this year is 71, high score is 82.

My home course is very quirky with 6 par 3's and lots of different tee locations on those holes so there is no normal on the par 3's.

For the par 4's and 5's I use:

Driver: 4

Fairway wood: 4

3 Iron: 3

5 or 6 iron: 1

Driver: Titleist TSi3 | Aldila Tour Green 75TX

My home course is short (5,200 yards from the senior tees) and windy. Tee shot clubs are as follows:

Par 3s (5) -

Depending on where the pin is and the wind strength and direction anything from an 8i to a 3W.

Par 4s (10) and Par 5s (3)

D -  9

3W - 3

9W - 1

Clubs: Ping (Driver, 5W, 5H, 6H, 7i-UW), Cleveland (wedges), Odyssey 2-Ball counter balanced

Ball: Maxfli Tour (yellow) or Vice Pro (neon lime); Callaway ORG 7 bag; Shot Scope x5

On our course, for me it looks like this ... the variances are generally temperature and wind-related.

Driver:  8-13

3 wood: 1-6

5h-7w: 1-2 (long par 3 plus sometimes into wind par 3 from 6-7i category)

6-7i: 1-2 (2 mid length par 3's with normal wind

8-9i: 1 (short par 3)

At my home course:

9i-7i (regular par 3s, depending on conditions): 3x

4i, 3H, or 3W (long par 3, depending on conditions): 1x

6i or 5i (dogleg par 4): 1x

Driver: 13x

It’s a fairly open course, so driver is the play the majority of the time. If I’m feeling shaky, I may hit 3W on up to 3 holes due to trouble left.

Don't have a home course, averaged out the typical shots I hit at the four courses I play the most. Yardage 6200-6400 on three, one is longer at 6800. Even the longest one has lots of layups and doglegs where driver is too much.

On my home course:

Driver 11

7W 1.5

4H 1.5 (one shot could be a stinger, depending on wind and tee block location)

5i 1

7i 2

9i 1

Driver is my most accurate long club; I use it unless distance would carry me through landing area.
