Short answer, very likely no. Long answer, it's been talked about a lot in the instruction/swing forums and his foot action is indicative of all the same forces the pros generate, he just generates more. It matches up with his more upright/tall swing and closer address position to the ball and is needed to create space to get into the otherwise elite impact position he is able to. Remove his footwork and the forces that cause it and you likely need to change several other key elements to retain the proper matchups, and since he is statistically elite in literally every category except for putting there is very little reason to entertain any of that.

Billy Casper and Lanny Wadkins dragged their right feet up close to their left feet, but as they played persimmon they couldn't swing out of their shoes all the time.  Scotty is a right foot dragger, swinging out of his shoes.  Works for him.

Maybe he should move his feet when he putts.

Seriously, if he putted just a little better - stand by. But, that’s always been the story in pro golf.

I mean, he's been far and away the best ball striker on tour for a while now. He's #1 in SG: Total, SG: T2G and SG: Approach ... I lost track of all the stats he's #1 in just poking through the stats page on the tour site.

Only reason he hasn't won a dozen times this year has been his putting; good enough for like #128. As bad as people talk about Rory's putting, even Rors is #44.

I was about to make this post and call it what is going on with Scottie "Twinkle Toes" Scheffler?

He missed his calling as a ballerina.  It does not seem sustainable, but his results now are great.  He would roll his ankle if he wasn't making that quick hop at the end.  I took two videos of him actually sliding too far and trying to make it appear normal post follow-through.  This was today maybe holes 14-15

Unaware that feet were what struck the golf ball.  Happy Gilmore had some crazy footwork but got a lot out of his swing.

As I am watching Scottie hit the ball in the little advertisement video in the bottom right of the screen, he seems to be doing just fine with his feet and swing.

It seems like maybe over the course of this season there was a period where all the analysis may have gotten to him and he tried dialing it back without any improvement in results. At the BMW he was doing it even more aggressively if that's possible. Seems like he's decided to lean into it until it stops working.

I personally couldn't care less what a swing looks like if it is producing elite, consistent results. The Scheffler shuffle might look loose and like a loss of control and you can expect him to get a little extra criticism if he has a miss just because it looks unusual but the numbers don't lie. If anything, let's talk about his putting...

Would Scottie be even better with more traditional footwork, or has he established a new paradigm?  Discuss

Probably not.  The "Texas Two Step" seems to work just fine.  It's definitely more pronounced this past week.  Maybe he looked at some film from last season and noticed some difference? Like George Gankas asks, "does it matter what a swing looks like if it works?"  Matthew Wolfe's is goofy but it works, as does Furyk's, and many others.

Yeah, but as @Valtiel points out, what's happening in a Wolfe or Furyk swing is very unconventional, and that's not really true with Scottie.

With Wolfe and Furyk, you don't mess with it because it works for them. But they're making movements very different to the majority of pro golfers. With Scottie, he's making a move that's generating the same forces that most elite golfers generate, but he's doing more of it so that right foot slips out.

The only reason you'd want Scottie to stop it, is if it was so pronounced that it was creating other inconsistencies in his ability to swing. Clearly based on his ballstriking stats, that's not an issue.

I just love that his footwork worries people.  Shows just how little is known about the swing , and how little folks understand about learned information vs born talent.
