Not really a habit, but iron covers.

Attempting a do-over from 4-8’ when someone else is preparing to putt.  
 

Leaving clubs and/or the flagstick on another players through line. 
 

Leaving Sunflower seeds on the tee 

 

Telling a story when another player is about to hit / lowering their voice when someone is about to hit thinking the player can’t hear them

 

Insisting on putting one foot putts.  

Passenger hanging foot out of the cart 30’ before the cart stops.  

 

Insisting the Birdie is up, rather than playing ready golf.  
 

Telling everyone else someone is a slow player , instead of that  player directly.  
 

Passenger constantly providing instructions to the driver.

I don't comment on shots like I'm Jim Nantz, but I do say "hello, friends" when we all meet again on the next tee box.

Not taking care of the course:

 

Pick up your trash, to include smokes, seeds, bottles, cans, discarded gloves, etc.

 

You want to smoke/chew, no problem. Just clean up after yourself. Nothing like having to clear seed hulls out of your line or putting through someone's GD spit.

 

Fix your pitch marks on the green (and fix another one or two while you're at it).

 

Fill your divots (and another one or two while you're at it).

 

Rake the bunker when you're done (and the other spot where some inconsiderate SOB didn't).

 

Keep your cart, push cart, bag, etc. off the green and tee box.

 

And finally, pick up your feet while walking on the green, especially around the hole.

 

And yeah, it has become increasingly worse since Covid . . .

Chatting on the tee box when you are clear to hit and there are groups behind you.

Maybe it’s because of softspikes or the spikeless shoes but waaay too many guys will walk on your line on the putting green without a thought these days.  🤬
 

Playing ready golf is great but the guy that rushes up to tee off first and then turns around to tell a joke.🤬

 

@st1800e mentioned sunflower seed shells on the tee but on the green is even worse.🤬

 

Speaking of on the green the guy that hits a crap putt and takes a swipe with his putter and takes a divot out of the green.  Not a real common one thankfully.

 

A guy I play with his nickname is “Time”.  No, not Father Time as in old…just Tme.  Based on the phrase Time waits for no man.  That’s him on the course as he’ll run up and hit an approach or putt just as others are about to hit.

Guy going on and on moaning about missing a 15 foot birdie putt after I just missed a 3 foot birdie on the same whole and do not say a word about it.

After reading that list I wonder why some people play golf. If I can play a a good pace the only thing that really bothers me are the stupid mistakes I make. I guess I’m too focused on myself- which Mrs. RSinSG occasionally points out to me.

Agree with pretty much everything that has been mentioned, but I'm curious about the one foot putt thing. Maybe I'm weird but I like to putt everything out because that is, after all, the entire point of the game (getting the ball in the hole). If someone swipes a short one away and knocks it back to me I don't get miffed, but it's not my preference. I play quickly, so I don't think that's an issue. If we've gotten to the point where we can't take the extra few seconds required to complete the hole, that's a weird place to be. Imagine going bowling and on your first ball you leave only the 10 pin up and your buddy walks over and says "that's good" as he pushes the button to knock it down and reset all the pins for his turn.

Not a huge problem with a speedy golfer tapping in, however I mostly see this from someone who’s playing casual golf and they’re tapping in for a nine.  Sometimes it’s a few seconds, often it’s longer as the preceding putt is from further away and has to walk to the hole.  Regardless, an extra 10 seconds to do something per hole is 3 minutes a round.  Times 4 players that adds up.  Often they’ll do it when there is someone else left to putt.  
 

Im pretty sure bowling lanes are longer than 1 foot.  😀

Another one. Passenger hits the shot and takes the time to clean his club and replace the headcover and the club, before you can drive to your next shot which may be 50 yards away. He can just get in the cart with club in hand, and put it away when the driver is hitting his next shot.  If it’s close, then obviously the driver can select their club and walk ahead and not wait.  Same happens when leaving the green on the way to the next tee. 
Again,  it’s the 10 second rule.  It adds up.

I can't generally disagree with the initial list. It's got the usual suspects covered. 

 

But, my personal one is any golfer who feels the need to constantly have a towel. Particularly the guy who has the dish towel hanging out of the back pocket or off their belt.

 

It seems a rough equivalent of wearing a t-shirt that says: "Hi, I'm a giant douchebag and it's gonna be a long afternoon."

I would categorize a lot of these under "lack of awareness" which can be a real drag.

 

Forgot to add one myself... how about people yanking the pin out to retrieve their ball from the cup. Played a pretty nice course a couple weeks ago and two of the guys I got paired with were older, one with a knee brace and obvious mobility issues. Both pulled this move on almost every hole. I cringed knowing they were most likely damaging the hole each time. Another "lack of awareness" situation I guess. Or maybe they just didn't care.

Biggest issue I keep seeing is not repairing green divots. We have really nice greens but it's too much for too many to not repair them.

The guy that explains why he just hit a bad shot when I’m trying to play. Had a guy sit at our lunch table yesterday, and lit a cigar without asking. A couple of just got up and left without a word. Courtesy never goes out of fashion.

Was just about to post the same thing. (Well guess I still am 😂) Always amazes me to get onto a green and see 1 or 2 totally obvious ball marks. I mean, it takes ~4 seconds to fix em! I’ll typically fix all that I see from others.

I made a suggestion at a course with greens that look like the surface of the moon. I can only fix so many. I wondered why rangers/marshals can’t fix some instead of just riding around and waving at people.

 

There’s always some time on holes when people are riding or walking to the green.

 

They looked at me like I had lost my mind. Apparently I have.

Slow play for sure. After a group putts it out, and they just stand around their carts for 3 minutes chatting before getting in their carts and going to the next hole. Happened today. lol
