Are you too cool for Top Golf?

TopGolf is too cool for me, they don't exist in Canada.

But I also don't see it as golf, it's entertainment, it's something non golfers can try and have fun with, it's the gateway drug into golf. There's a reason Callaway bought into it, it gets them an untapped market of potential customers.

I've been a few times and as long as you go in with the correct expectations its fine. It's not real golf. If you want it to be a replacement for the driving range, or the course, you'll be in disappointed. If you want to have a few beers with some friends on a nice summer night, it gives a little something more to do than stand around at a bar.

Did it once with some folk I play with at Resorts Catskills Casino.

Not my cup of tea.

Prefer a fun miniature golf course to it.

I'd like to give it a try. unfortunately, there really isn't one close to me at the moment.

People who take themselves too seriously won't have fun, but I'm sure I could make a good time out of it

If I have to spend my own money, I'm fine with going in the winter on half-price Tuesday with some friends, having some drinks, and hitting some balls. Infinitely better than bowling.

My company loves Top Golf, so I get to go as a corporate event--catered buffet, multiple bays, open bar--pretty often. I find it a much more entertaining way to socialize with co-workers/higher-ups than just mingling in a bar.

Basically this.  For Tuesdays, with a beverage and some knowledge of the correction to apply to the Toptracer numbers (~5-6% at the top end for ball speed), it's a perfectly fine place to get out of the sun and hit a few balls.  The mats are thin, the tees are low, but it's still relaxing to see balls sail through the air.  And you can actually see the balls' fly, as opposed to a lot of places in Houston when the Sun goes down, lights or not.  Yay, middle aged eyes.

I'd still prefer grass of course, but they frown on it at most grass driving ranges if you've a beer sitting next to your bucket.  (5050 Acorn is an exception to that, but it has warts of its own.)

So, I'll probably keep going every now and then on Tuesdays.  It's close to me, and easy to get to.

Am I the only one who loves golf but would be completely ok never going to a top golf again? I get the concept and think it's great for people who dont play but want a night out. But there is nothing about going there that excites me or checks my golf need for the day.

Yeah not a fan. Shrink the game.

Never been. My 15 year old says he’s too cool for it.  He doesn’t play golf anymore and when he does go to top golf , his friends say he cheats.  Translated that means he can hit a ball.  😂.  Seems like an ok concept for teens to hang out. But I don’t get adults doing it.

Several of the golf buds will go to the local Top Golf once per winter.  Midweek, in the a.m., not crowded (like hardly anyone), cheaper.  Couple clubs, hit some balls, drink coffee, have some laughs.  An entertaining diversion in February.  Nothing more.  We're a group of geezers, the first time we went had to seek assistance to figure out how to change the "games" played.  Something different than going to a nearby golf dome to swat balls.  No interest in going there on a Saturday night.

Gave it zero thought whether it was cool or not cool.  On matters such as this, I differ to Keith Richards for guidance:  "If you gotta think about being cool, you ain't cool."

It is a bowling alley.  Do professional bowlers go to the bowling alley on "cosmic bowling" night to work on their game?  I think TopGolf is sort of the same deal for golfers.

I am not going there and in between bites of bar food trying to work on my low spinner wedge shots or 8 iron cuts.

I've never been, my kid and a couple of buddies have been. I'm doing something similar to top golf at Citizens Bank Park this weekend. Guessing that will more or less be the same. From what I understand, you are better off saving your money and going out to lunch or dinner. Heard it can get pricey, quick

The closest one to me is about an hour north of me at Town Place Center in Jacksonville.  I drive by it going to the airport or a customer I have north of the Top Golf location. I had one about an hour south of me when I lived in Fort Collins, CO.  Again, similar scenario and still the same end result.  I am not interested in Top Golf.  I do understand the social aspect of Top Golf.  My social interaction doesn't need a crowded golf arcade with most being 1/2 my age.  I go to the range to work on my game and Top Golf wouldn't fit the bill.  Besides, I can't drink the beer they serve there or eat most of the food they serve.  Have to love a Gluten allergy ( 🙄 ).  That said, those who love Top Golf, enjoy.  Those who don't, I can relate.  For me it isn't a matter of being too cool.  It's a matter of form and function.

TopGolf is ok but like others said not really made to go "golfing".   Better off taking your wife, kids, etc.....

I have found a few TopTracer ranges near me where TopGolf has installed the tracers and software at existing driving ranges and they work great.  You can play simulated rounds, range, long drive, approach challenges and a lot of other games.

They do miss a lot of shots under like 40 yards which can be annoying if you are playing a round but are very accurate overall.  The college golf team was testing it against a trackman and it was always within a yard or two of each other.  TopTracer has no spin numbers though

Top Golf is its own thing.  Roll in there like a serious golfer and you're the tool.

Look, it's a fun event particularly for people who don't play 50+ rounds per year.  I've taken work teams there many times, and the feedback has generally been good.  I can't take the team to go play golf, because playing golf is no fun at all if someone doesn't really play golf, but that person often has fun at Top Golf.

It's not cheap -- my kids like it too, I take our family of four there and never get out for less than two bills.
