Jason Day wearing Malbon Golf apparel – The 2024 Sentry

Well I can assure you that this is happening…..I was a Nike Elite Staff member until this all went down. I’ve been with them since 2018 and it appears as though that’s not going to continue going forward.

We found out in September our Nike rep was out and our Srixon rep would be handling Nike. Haven’t heard much since. Last year Srixon clothing came from Turtleson and shoes were ASICS. My guess is clothing will now be Nike and shoes will stay ASICS.

Malbon is a weird sponsor.. considering they don’t actually make anything.. they just stitch their logo in and mark it up 40%…

Forgive me, I might need this explained like I’m 5 but is this real?

Like he could be wearing pants, a shirt, hat, and shoes that are all different brands but all have the Malbon logo on it?

How does such an arrangement get made with all these brands?

This is either the dumbest thing possible or brilliant. Can’t quite make up my mind here.

That’s how I understand it. My guess is they would Coordinate for him some so he doesn’t look completely ridiculous but who knows..

I'm sorry, what exactly is not going to continue?  Your relationship?  So are we to believe that Nike golf will be associated with SRI/Srixon going forward?

Ding Ding……Nike Golf is going to be sold and distributed through Mint Green, which is owned by Srixon/Cleveland, so yes they will be associated

I have to be honest, I have no idea what Malbin is. As a forty five year old, this is likely a function of me being old.

I actually wear a lot of the tapered LuLu pants. Really like them. And their hoodies. Wear a lot of Rhoback too. Big hoodie guy.

Then I just buy all my shirts with shop credit, so whatever a given place has.

Wife has a rule: come home with a shirt, have to toss a shirt.

as soon as I knew -- threw all of my clothes out and rushed to the shops..... just gotta get my hands on these new Marvin threads.  If Jason says it's the bomb - who am I to argue ?  I mean this is the dude who went on the Special Sports' Stars Jeopardy show - up against a head cover and a ball marker -  and managed a top 3.

Yeah i thought Trottie was much more annoying. I have the impression he was intending to show up to get fit, not for a lesson, which made the live stream a little more uncomfortable. Sure everyone can use help with your swing, but you aren't going to make a huge consistent change in 15 min.

Isn't that how Trottie rolls? if there's an issue that can be fixed with the fit then that's part of it. I'd imagine pros get the same treatment but to a lesser degree, even if it's alignment or ball position.

A quick google search of mint green shows Nike as a product line that they distribute. https://www.mintgreen.com/

My assumption is that Nike partners with Mint Green to distribute licensed products to the thousands of golf clubs, club pros, and golf shop branded items. Feels like nothing more than a reseller, just like Mint Green does for tennis apparel to tennis centers.

You are correct. Nike obviously still owns the brand and handles design of the footwear and clothing line. They have just moved sales and distribution to mint green. The sales force for green grass accounts will be the Srixon / Cleveland reps. With that a lot of the staff deals at the green grass level will be moved too Srixon / Cleveland staffers and I believe on tour we will see Srixon / Cleveland staffers like Glover and others wearing Nike footwear and possibly clothing.

Nike has been mailing it in and doing the bare minimum (their lifestyle and Sb/skate division employees have been doing cross-design for golf) in the golf apparel ever since they left equipment.

The Jordan brand has taken over the TW spot in golf and thats all Nike will probably keep going at this point. I mean...Nike didnt even care enough to make TW a shoe when he started wearing FJs.

Tiger didn’t re-up his deal with Nike because Nike was pushing the Jordan brand more than him. Jordan was only to stay a basketball brand. Tiger Golf - MJ Basketball. He started wearing the FJ as a middle finger to Nike….

I'm in the UK and had never heard of Malbon until a few months ago when I was searching for hybrid headcovers on Ebay... all that kept coming up were these malbon headcovers and every single one of them was being sold/ shipped from China (which usually means they are knock offs). I assumed Malbon Golf was just some made up chinese brand to sell these cheap headcovers 🙂

I'm not that familiar with him, but IMO there is a clear difference and objective between a fitting and a lesson.

Also I doubt a fitter is going to try to give advice to a tour pro when the pro has a much more informed coaching team.

Trottie is TM's master fitter.  All of his fittings are like that, even with Tour pros.  He's not a shaft-swapper.  He finds the one that works (or already knows based on experience what's going to work), then works with the player to optimize it.   He spends a lot of time trying to help players find the right path and launch conditions.

He's an acquired taste.  I generally enjoy his videos but he talks way too much, especially in the videos where he's the one getting fit.  He did an iron shaft fitting at KBS and literally talked the entire time as the KBS fitter was working with him.

It's not exactly true that they don't make anything.  They do produce a lot of their own items, but they also have a lot of collaborations with other brands.  That is something that is unique to them.  They do carry some items that are pure skus from other brands such as Nike, Dockers and Footjoy, and will add their brand to the items.  I believe they just purchase the items at wholesale from those brands, then put their own branding on it.  For other collaborations, they will work with the brand to come up with an item, which they will produce, that will include both brands on the item.  For these items I think Malbon will produce the item, and then share the revenue from the sales with the brand they are collaborating with.  This ends up being a win on both sides as the brand Malbon is collaborating with finds a way to get exposure to the golf market, and consumers will buy the collab items if they are really into the brand Malbon is collaborating with.  At the end of the day, it is not just a simple slapping of their logo on someone else's stuff for most of what they sell.  A lot of the time, if it is an existing sku with the other company, they will work on new colorways to make something unique.

I really like the brand but apparel wise there is very little I'd wear myself. I find the logo is just too much on almost all of the items. A lot of the headcovers and accessories are cool though.

Makes a change from joggers. J Day paired E Van Rooyen is quite a contrast.
