Best golf deal of your life - used or brand new equipment or green fee.

Recommended Posts

As a walker, I try to stay close to the spirit of the game and also to keep my costs down to an acceptable level.

So for me, the best deal I've made is paying $350 for a slightly used Alphard eWheels Club Booster V1 with a Clicgear 3.5+ push cart.

Brand new, it would be worth $1,100.00.

Please share your own best golf deal.

Thanks in advance for sharing!

Best golf deal ever was the Kmart closeout deals I found. I started thread about it in this section. Had to be about 10 years ago now so not sure it will be archived or can even be found. People didn't believe me when I started the thread but then people with local Kmarts went in and found Nike, Callaway, Mizuno and other clubs for pennies on the dollar. I bought a couple of sets of Mizuno JPX 850s, Nike Vapor Pro Combos and Vapor Pro Blades for $99 each. Craziest deals I ever got.

That was after Golfsmith had been bought out of b/k by Dicks Sporting Goods and they liquidated it's inventory. A K-Mart I lived near had been pretty picked over by the time I got to it. Especially LH gear. Was able to get a couple of wedges for next to nothing. It was crazy watching people dig through the clubs.

At my old club they had a golf only membership special where it was 250/month for all you can golf after 4pm cart included, with a 50 food/bev voucher. Add 200/mo extra and you had no time stipulation (450/mo total). Unlimited range balls. On a course that could be as high as 180/round in season, it was well worth it playing 6-10 times a month. Also my playing partners got a huge discount <70 per round for them.

I've had several good deals over the years, but one of them that sticks out is the Taylormade Lethal deal that Woot.com had some years ago.  The dozen practice balls were selling for $9 a dozen, but when they shipped several people ended up getting 3 dozen for the price of one.  I only had that happen once even though I picked up several dozen in the $9 sale.

One of the deals that really stand out is a 2-E of 1999 Hogan Apex Blades for $80...Canadian.  I bought it just before the pandemic when used club prices where reasonable.  It was barely used as it was from a Hogan Staffer for only a couple of months until he jumped ship to Titleist and has been in his garage and never seen the light of day for almost 20 years.

I also remember buying my current putter (Rife Aruba) for $60 CDN and it was brand new with the plastic still on the head from some guy who was blowing out his golf shop inventory about 10 years ago.

Golfsmith store closings were pretty insane. Was able to get 10 driver and fairway shafts from fitting carts for around $40. If you wanted lefty stuff there were iron sets and putters at pennies on the dollar.

Yep as a lefty I made out. Plus, in Austin around 2010 there was the Golf Galaxy closing. Still have odds and ends like gloves . Also still have two Odyssey saturn ring putters that were like 30 bucks each for left handed - early in the closeout.

Bridgestone was doing that free 2 pack of XS golf balls giveaway. I think it was posted here and the same ball TW was playing. You could put in multiple email addresses and get multiple packs.

One time I bought a like new titleist carry bag off OfferUp for $100 because I noticed it also had 2 near mint Vokey spin-milled (pre rule change) wedges in it.

About 6 years ago, I ordered a TM M4 driver and a pair of shoes from Carl's.  Got a delivery notification about 11am, so I went home at lunch to pull it off the porch, and it was just the driver.  When I got home, there was a bigger box with shoes and a driver.  Called Carl's and told them they sent me 2 drivers.  They sent me a return label and said they'd mark it as return to inventory with no refund.  They refunded me anyway, so I ended up with a free driver.

Last year, Stitch had their SL2 colorblock bags for 40% off.  The fadeaway bags were new and not on sale.  Then they did a 1-day flash sale of 50% off all SL2 bags.  Early in the day, a glitch applied the 50% off the already discounted price for the colorblock, so I got one for $125.  Sold it on FB Marketplace for $225 and made a quick $100.

Also last year, I sold a 9 deg OG SIM that I had as a spare for $200 and bought an 8 deg SIM for $190.  Then I saw an add on BST for an 8 deg SIM2 for $175.  I bought it and put the OG SIM up for sale.  The SIM2 arrived, and the face was caved in slightly (hard to tell, and I don't believe any foul play on the seller's part).  Submitted a warranty claim with TM, and they sent me a brand new Stealth2+ replacement.  Then a buyer asked for a close-up pic of the OG SIM, and he pointed out a small crack.  I tried another warranty claim with TM, and they honored that, even though it was 3 yrs old!  Sold the 2nd Stealth2+ for $340.  So basically, I traded a used OG SIM for $175 and a new Stealth2+.  (I know some might say still lost on that one, but the SIM didn't work well for me, and the Stealth2+ does)

When I was stationed in Charleston, SC, Kiawah courses were $60/round for active duty military, with no blackout dates I ever encountered.  I played the Ocean course many, many times.  Additionally, I became friends with a guy that worked at Cassique (Kiawah private club), and played it about a dozen times for free.

What a time...

When I was just out of college, I had a buddy that was doing his chef internship at The Carolina (Pinehurst).  He invited myself and a couple other guys down to play the Pinehurst courses.  We all let him know that we were basically broke and he said the golf would be "cheap."  We all scraped together whatever money we could and headed down.  Fully prepared to be able to play 1 or MAYBE 2 rounds for the money we had.

First day we went to #8 and the cost was.......$5!!!!

Needless to say we extended our trip and managed to play #1-#8 (that was all the courses there at the time).  Yes, this did include #2 for the massive upgrade cost of $25!!

Seeing the price of the Pinehurst courses now, this experience, all those years ago, has nearly ruined my desire to want to go back.  Not that the golf isn't great, but that was just such an amazing deal.
