Is the dress code for women golfers more lax then men?

I just watched some LPGA coverage and I noticed Danielle Kang was pretty much wearing her gym gear while playing in a tournament (probably an unpopular opinion but I kind of like the change).

That being said, I don’t recall anyone on the PGA doing something that bold.

I don't think ithe dress code is any more stringent for the women than the men.

You've got guys wearing joggers and hoodies. Other guys are wearing 5 pocket pants which, if made of denim instead of whatever fabric, would be jeans.

Other than shorts and tee shirts, how much more relaxed can it be?

(Note: I don't count Woods' mock short sleeve shirts as a tee shirt because the mock collar was wider.)

" No I'm not Grandpa, I'm playing tennis."
"No, you're playing golf and you're going to like it."

I would consider that dressed down at a local public course near me that is very lax with dress codes  (they don't have one other than you must wear a  shirt, shoes, and some type of bottom--they don't care what type or style.  I love the course bust still wear collared shorts and golf shorts or pants when I play there.

Golf pants have come a long way and many are very breathable.  But, you are right.  None are as cool as shorts.

I can understand the PGA allowing shorts for some events.  I can also see not allowing shorts at some courses such as Augusta National.

That said, a player in shorts slipping on a green jacket would look terrible. 🤣

Yeah...quoting my own post.    I'm just imagining an Angus Young look with the Green jacket and shorts.

The guys could have it worse as professional sports goes. See the new baseball uniforms as example.

Now that would sell some tickets. All that prime, dormant muscle in see-through attire. Perhaps you missed our discussion on mesh shirts making their way to the men's tours? We'll be recapping the discussion soon if you'd like to tune in.

Oh good - is that ever some weird thing. Been reading about it. What a clusterf***.

Is it just me, or is the the whole world just getting increasingly weird right now?

I think the difference of dress codes is somewhat regional. As an example, in Saudi Arabia male professional golfers can wear shorts and short sleeve shirts but female professional golfers must cover their skin, including legs and arms. I’m sure there are other regional customs/requirements.

If the question is limited to the U.S. professional golf, in my opinion, LPGA players are typically better dressed than PGAT players.

The dress code at a Black Tie Formal Met Gala event is more lax than the PGA tour dress code.  If the PGA cared about peak athletic performance they would have players wearing shorts in hot, humid weather.  Anyone who says there are fabrics that allow long pants to be cooler than shorts is a buffoon.

I know things are different now, but when I was growing up a good player wouldn't be caught dead in a pair of shorts.  They were called "duffer shorts."

And to this day I don't own any.

Or perhaps your budget doesn't allow for experiencing the proper caliber of golf pants.

I actually watched some highlights to see this because i didn't believe it..  I'm no stuffy traditionalist but this is kind of a shocking ensemble for a professional golf tournament. It's literally just stuff you'd hit the gym in.  Did she lose her luggage?

I still painfully remember a Pro at The Australian running out and pulling me off the 10th tee in maybe 2008 because my golf attire was unsuitable and my foursome then being held up while I went into the pro shop to purchase compliant clothing.  The transgression?   My golf socks had a very tiny "FJ" logo at the top of the heel.  My hat and shirt could have a logo but any logo on a sock was prohibited on the course.

I also remember when men wore a suit & tie in the First Class section of airliners.  Those standards went away long ago as did some of the sillier tennis dress standards.

The world is changing folks and many of us think the golf world fashion police need to kinda get a life.  Or, do those who claim golf isn't really a sport have a valid point of argument?

Danielle Kang does have a habit of wearing much more casual outfits.  That being said, she has signed with a new designer this year and is actually wearing cute skorts with matching tops now & then.  She's always been a bit of a rebel.  I think the worst offender of the "too casual" looks is Mel Reid.  She will wear very short bicycle shorts with a tee shirt on some days....and, she's a bit of a rebel too. 🤣

Back in the early 2000s I was told at a golf course I couldn't play in a mock collar and I would have to buy a traditional shirt to play.  Never mind they sold the mock collared shirts in the pro shop.  Funny enough, I ran into a similar situation recently at a buddy's member guest last year.  I was told that the club had a rule against hoodies and not to wear them to play, even for rain gear.  Lo and behold, as soon as I walked into the pro shop there were two racks of hoodies for sale.  It's okay to sell them, just don't wear them.

I don't mind men being held to a higher standard when it comes to dress codes on the golf course.  Men and women are not the same and they never will be.

Wow….this thread threatens to get really weird and awkward.

Professional golfers are athletes now, and I’m glad to see golf clothing moving that direction. My observation is the ladies are ahead of the men in this aspect, but I find it absurd and crazy that PGA pros cannot wear shorts. I also realize that comment belongs in the unpopular golf opinions thread.
