Exactly, the guy is playing on his own terms.if he doesnt feel ready or wants to focus on off course training so be it. guy has earned any schedule he wants. I for one am happy that hes being cautious.

Not fussed if this is seen as an overreaction, but Tiger is clearly pretty damn close to hanging it up as a semi-regular tour player (2 years more would be my bet).

Post-fusion, he was relatively healthy most weeks, just with stiffness here and there but nothing serious. Then he said his knee was bothering him from around The Tour Championship onward, and this showed in his lacklustre performance between then and The Masters (he didn’t actually play well in the Match Play but kept coming up against opponents who were worse).

It seems that TW did even more than we realised to get his body into a good place at Augusta, as he swung so freely that week. However, it clearly came at a price as we saw in his first post-Masters video where he was limping badly, and then his knee bothered him for the entire summer until he had surgery. Tiger attributed this to the back fusion, stating that it was the physical stress having to go somewhere else in the body as his back was fused up.

Post-surgery he looked healthier than he had done in over a year (bar the Masters) at the Zozo, but problems seem to have re-emerged very quickly.

I’m 50-50 on whether he tees it up at The Players, but think he’ll play the Match Play and The Masters. After that, I think he may well sit out the rest of the season, except for the majors as he’ll likely aggravate things again in one of those two events.

Short version - In 2018 his body held up pretty well, in 2019 not very well at all, and it looks like this year could be just as bad, if not worse. If it continues this way he won’t have long left as I doubt his body can take any more surgeries, especially for such little payoff as the knee surgery had last summer, apart from a healthy week at the Zozo and to some extent the Presidents Cup.

Prediction - This season and next he’ll play circa 10 events in each, and after that just the majors until he’s around 50, then he’ll pack it in.

If he follows last year’s blueprint though, it wouldn’t shock me if he manages to get his body ready for Augusta and is contention on the back 9 on Sunday, but then I think it’ll pretty much be season over except for the majors.

Loved that guy. Didn't know him other than to watch him but was my grandfather's doppleganger and everytime I watched footage of him with his early days trademark cigarette on the fairways reminded me of my grandpa watching me hit his old persimmon woods into the neighbouring farmer's fields. Coyote deterrent he called it?⛳

Used to take my girls to driving range and watch them hit their little irons out onto the range thinking maybe I have the next Annika ?. They were more interested in collecting my tees and chasing each other around.
