So how much money did you spend on golf equipment this year?

I was just going to post this because I keep seeing people posting how they a) got a set of Edels and didn't like the feel of shaft, so they b) had the shafts switched out with Steel fiber and still didn't like it so went 180-degrees and c) picked up a set of Titleist MBs but changed the shafts to DG-400S, and d) also picked up a TM 6 with after market $$$$ shaft (sounded like a $4,000 spending spree) Well, you know the posts, I see them on every thread....so had me thinking, are these young bucks who have no commitments and spend all their money on golf, or are they stock brokers who got more money than they know what to do with? What the hey is going on here? Kind of like when I mentioned to the golf pro at our club about some players are always in the club house with drinks/food and he acknowledged their 'club tab' is often 3x their monthly membership fee, and he told me "and every one of them has marriage issues" because of that.

I just did a tally on all my golf equipment spending in the year of 2018, including golf clubs, grips, shafts, club fitting, and club work at Golf Galaxy and two local golf shops. The total is $5,411.19. It includes:

- Three sets of golf irons;

- two drivers, one Callaway and one Ping;

- New Callaway Rogue fairway woods and hybrids;

- Two sets of Vokey wedges - one SM6 set and one SM7 set;

- A new Evnroll putter;

- A few after-market shafts;

- Balls, Grips, etc.

Am I too wasteful? How much have you spent for the year of 2018?

More than I would care to admit, but a lot less than some of the numbers on here. In past years I have spent well into the thousands, but I’ve managed to cut it way down by following a fairly simple rule: never buy any club the first time I hit it. Cutting out impulse purchases has meant that what I buy has a much better chance of sticking in my bag. I still swap stuff more frequently than I should, but less than half the bag turned over in 2018 (3w, 3h, 3 wedges) when I’d literally turn it over 2 or 3 times in years prior, so that’s progress, I guess?

2019 was supposed to be a quiet year equipment wise for me... however that turned into "New Year, New Gear" pretty fast. Will most likely be a full bag change except the putter i think. Not sure what that will equate to in terms of money however we all what a new setup runs everyone.

Trying to minimize my club-ho tendencies this year, and am limiting myself to recent purchases of TS3 Driver, TS2 3W, and AP3 in 4i and 5i bent one degree weak to blend into my AP2s.

Resisted the tempation (so far) to buy the Slate Blue Vokeys, because admittedly I'd get the same lofts and grinds. I'll just wait for SM8 or when these wear out.

Nothing for 2018; didn't even play last year.

I do have a $90 gift card from 2017 that is good at a local municipal golf course; no expiration. Not sure what I'll use it on as I really don't "need" anything; not even golf balls.

Too bad they don't carry gun stuff; could spend it in a heartbeat.

First time back in the game after a nearly 10 year hiatus. Clearly I needed to buy a whole new setup. Everything was either a BST or eBay buy.

- few dozen snell mtbs

- new grips and some misc other needs

Compared from past years I splurged. From Dec. 2018 to now I probably spent $90 for 3 used ATV Wedges and another $80 on my 905R and $90 for my 990 irons so that's $260 just for the clubs, but that doesn't include the costs of regripping them and other mods to them so I'd say a conservative $500 (all in CDN $)

That doesn't include the miscellaneous gems of single clubs I find at my local Value Village. The amount spent on that is so low since most clubs sold there are under $5 each it is probably less than the cost of a dozen TP5s.

10.5 deg Titleist 905R with stock UST Proforce V2 Shaft (Stiff flex)
Titleist 990 (3-PW) with stock Dynamic Gold in S300
Taylormade V-Steel 5W & 3W with Grafalloy Prolaunch Red shafts (Regular Flex)
2011 Adams Tom Watson signature wedges in 52 and 56 degrees with stock steel shafts (Player's Grind)
Rife Island Series Aruba Blade Putter

I’ve found a way to inject some discipline into my buying decisions. If I want to BUY first I need to SELL. While it may not always add up to the totals completely I’ve managed to get pretty close. When there’s a little work involved it forces me to evaluate the purchase closely. Also, doesn’t allow for impulse purchases. It’s worked for me! BB

I'm petty light on my ho'ing this year. I'm pretty happy with exactly what I have. So here's mine

Cobra F9 Driver got a steal on it for -369.00, and I love the thing. That's it. the last 3 or so years, I spent over 6000, but not this year. Im perferctly happy. I am in the market for some new shoes though. So I guess that might be considered equipment.

Only $80 for new grips. Other than that I am sticking with my current set up this year. Although I will probably tinker with some different driver and 3 wood shafts.

Last year wasn't too crazy. I transitioned to Single Length irons which led a lot of changes (about $1k total), but everything was used and fairly reasonably priced. So far this year, $50 on used balls, a hybrid and a putter both free after trade-ins, and about $100 in grips (8 new iron grips, 2 new putter grips).

I could see myself making a driver shaft change and replacing my shoes at some point this year, and maybe a new push cart, but I doubt that there will be very many other changes in my gear this year.
