I went into the shop to buy an Optifit 3 adapter... This box is leaning against the wall behind the counter. Still wrapped in plastic from the factory. Ask my buddy what’s up with it? Guy came in and wanted to trade it for a month’s membership, he says. What is it, I ask? 2018 Newport 2. Still in the factory cellophane. I literally cut the plastic off the box. Did I need a 4th Newport? Debatable? Would I have bought it if it wasn’t in the plastic? Probably not. Did my girlfriend ask why the box was so big for an adapter? Yep. 😂

Are you sure it’s real? I don’t remember ever seeing real Scotty Cameron’s with the head wrapped in plastic. I thought normally that’s a sign of a fake.

Well, I haven’t had it authenticated or anything. I got it yesterday. But, I bought it from a life long friend who is also a club professional, so if there was a problem, it wouldn’t really be a problem. That being said, it checks all the boxes for me. Can’t say that I can find anything to make me believe it isn’t legit.

I’m almost 100% sure that’s a fake. Here is a post from someone I found that bought a counterfeit one on Amazon. Looks just like yours. Same box and everything.

By George, I think you’re right! I wasn’t going to game it anyway. Likely add it to the collection in the closet, but that’s a bit of a bummer. I’ll give Titleist a call tomorrow to verify, because damn if it’s not a really good fake, but I’m almost certain after reading that Reddit thread. This one might have been out of the same batch based on the pictures.
 

To be honest, I didn’t think much of it at the time and I’m not worried about getting cheated out of anything, but I own 6 of the damn things (3 NP2) and didn’t realize it could even possibly be fake until you pointed it out. I’m more disappointed in myself than anything. 
 

Even the shrink wrap seems obvious now... everything I’ve ever purchased direct had a sole sticker for protection, but no wrap. 

Anyway, China strikes again. Thanks for your due diligence, WRXers! 
 

Also, I’m wondering if the old dude that traded it even knew? Seemed like an odd trade in the first place, but that should be an interesting convo with the pro.

No problem man, just wanted to make sure you weren’t getting taken advantage of. I agree the fakes are getting pretty dang good. Honestly I would have thought the Pro would have caught it though.

To be fair to him, he is a good friend of mine that goes beyond golf, it was from a reputable member, and the box was factory sealed. Now, to fault him at the same time, he should have opened it up to check it out first as well. My guess is that he didn’t doubt the source or authenticity, just as I didn't, so he didn’t have any reason to doubt the product. 
 

Either way, I won’t be out anything, even though he might be a little embarrassed, as am I. I genuinely appreciate your help though, as I would have been much more embarrassed if I ever decided to sell or trade it.

Miura MB-001 7-PW off the BST. Pulled the S400 shafts they came with and put in some Project X 6.0 shafts. Played one round and they felt great. They blend prefectly with my Apex MB or Apex pro irons. But would like to find some Miura CB-501 irons or more MB-001 irons to complete the set.

I'm sure he knew. That's probably why he was trying to get something for it with an unconventional exchange rather than selling it on eBaby and potentially getting flagged. Anyway, it's a bummer. These counterfeits are getting so good it's really hard to tell. I bought a fake Newport 2 about 10 years ago on eBay that was visually flawless. Took it to the course and one of the sole weights fell out during the first round. I knew in that moment I had been had.

So, follow up post... I called Titleist this morning and the serial # actually came back as a 2018 Select, but it was a mallet, not a NP2. Crazy, right? Even had the year and model right, just missed the style. I also unwrapped the putter and I swear this thing is visually identical to a legit NP outside of one spot on the neck and hosel. Just goes to show how well these fakes can really be produced. The rep also mentioned that they reuse serial #’s, which seems to defeat the purpose, but nonetheless, not a match. 
 

He referred me to the Scotty Shop, and they were little to no help. Said they would have to see it in person to verify it, but there’s no way I’m shipping a potential knock off across country to be verified as a fake. 
 

I also spoke to my friend and he said to bring it back to the shop, no worries. He’d take care of the rest. Not sure what that means for the member, but I’m sure he will claim to be clueless. Either way, it all worked out and more than anything, I’m annoyed and embarrassed. And kinda pissed that I don’t have a new putter now.

Loving this thing for nice tight ropes when driver is too much and need a little more height than the dhy. Pretty impressed

only hit the 52 yesterday. Nice looking little clubs. I don’t think they’re anymore magical than any other new wedges just because they’re “super secret tour only”, but it does feel nice to play some pretty new wedges.
